I'm posting this here because I assume not everyone reads the worklogs. I could have sworn there was a website that sells computer parts that you could pitch ideas to. I remember that you could tell them your dea and if they developed it you would get a cut in. I'd do it all myself, but I've played with copyrights before and it's a very expensive endevour(sp?). I'd be cool with just telling a company that already makes parts and not doing all the legwork myself.
Hmm, I have never heard of such a company, but that would be AWESOME.

The problem here is you have 0 protection over your idea. I've dropped money into patents to only to find out the pricing only got steeper through each step of the process. Just to get them to look over your idea it was around 600 bucks. Unless you have 5-$10,000 laying around (depending on the complexity of your idea) you may be stuck like me with a notepad of numerous worthy product ideas.
If you find such a site and have good luck with it, please, PLEASE share with us.

I've tried getting a patent before too, and you're right it is expensive. I was told at the time it would be at least $5000
I actually don't even care if I get rewarded, my current worklog is just something I wish was available so I wouldn't have to make my own.

VCs and angel investors really don't care if the idea exists or not already. They aren't going to take your idea and screw you over. Most will never ever sign paperwork that says that they won't steal your idea because it means when the next guy comes in with the exact same idea (trust me, none of us are that novel) they won't be able to invest in him.
What they are really investing in is an idea that they think will make them money, the established business/product you have created based on that idea, and you. They are investing their money based on the assumption that you care so much about your product that you are going to keep working super hard on it even after they give you money.

Poor TGS with no optical drive in his laptop stand.
If you make a really good version and find a way to produce it in high quantities you could probably sell the concept device.
