I have always been a speed junkie, from bicycles as a kid, to drag cars as a teen and adult. This addiction has carried over to my PC hobby; just like a drug, nothing is ever enough. The fastest processor, ram, hard drives and even the fastest optical drives have found their way into my PCs. The one piece of hardware that has eluded me is the Solid State Drive (SSD). For months I drooled over the speeds I was seeing SSDs hit, and the desire for one was growing. Then Plextor (http://www.plextoramericas.com) released their first line of SSD (http://www.plextoramericas.com/index.php/ssd) earlier this year at CES. Shortly thereafter, I had a review sample sitting on my desk. How did it perform? Keep reading (http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/frontpage/?q=node/492) to find out.

Nice to see Plextor doing stuff again. Is this a rebrand, or their own work again?

I am pretty sure that it is their own design. The next generation will be released some time this summer.

It's good to see another player entering the ring. More competition is always good for the consumer. :D

It would be nice to see it compared to other SSDs though. It looks phenomenal compared to HDDs, but a 145MBps read speed is really pretty slow for an SSD these days, especially for a $300+ drive. Here's hoping they can improve their speeds in the next generation.
