I just had this crazy idea just now... Instead of shelling out $10-$15 for VGA RAM coolers, can I just super glue those thick staples onto the chips? I want to know if I can do this safely w/o ruining the chips.

I dont expect that superglue is a good heat conductor. I also dont expect that it will look very pretty.
But theres only one way to find out! :D
It may work, but proboly not too well. The super glue won't contuct heat very well, and may burn/melt/crack and cause damage to the chip. Also I don't think staples conduct heat that well either, unless they are aluminium.

Yeah, I was just thinking about that. Would Arctic Silver work just fine? Also, I don't think finding aluminum staples would be hard.

The Problem with the super glue I dea is that Superglue doesn't do well with heat. See when superglue is heated (after it sets) it releases, that means the two things it was holding stop being join.....and staples falling into your case could be really bad for your mobo.....I'd spend the $5 for ram coolers and the $10-$12 for the articsilver adhisive it's way cheaper then a new mobo.
But that's just me.

I'll just have my friend machine some copper heatsinks, see if he has any thermal compound, and make some custom clamps. Much cheaper than spending all of my $30 that I have to spend.

I must applaud the creativeness of the idea.. but I think your second option is the way to go..

You might be able to find some old aluminum CPU heat sinks, cut en down and stick em on with frag tape.
Check with the local computer. Also look into recycle centers. We have a couple here in town that deal just in office equipment (like old computers). Anythings beter than steel staples.

That Zalaman Cooler is sweet. I wonder how much of an OC you could get on those. Looks like it takes up at least two slots though. Probably better than the two slot coolers that are included with lots of the latest graphics cards.

5. The Nipples MUST be tightened by hand.
Using tools to tighten the nipples may break the tip of the nipples.
