I'm thinking of getting a pocket camcorder like these at Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=802&name=Pocket%2DCamcorders&Order=RATING) I'm not sure on what to get. They go from less than a hundred to about 300. What's the differences that I should be looking out for? I really like the idea of having a slot for a memory card and not built in memory.

You get what you pay for mostly. I was looking into those a while back and found all of the cheaper ones had shoddy sound quality from being tinny, quiet or picking up sounds from behind the camera/pressing of buttons more than whatever you're recording.

I'd google ones you're interested in and see if there are any demos of it in use. I was looking at these (http://cgi.ebay.com/DOD-F500HD-Mini-FULL-HD-1920-1080P-Car-camcorder-/320526139645?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Camcorders_Professional_Video_Cameras&hash=item4aa0d8c0fd) too.

I've heard some good things about the flip but imo it looks like a cheap pos so w/e the quality, I hate it.

I've got a Sanyo Xacti handheld, takes high-speed SD cards, and mine does 720HD pictures and video. The new version does 1080HD. I paid about $130 for mine, the new one is $179

I've literally been looking for one to do reviews with. Go to youtube type in the camcorder model and after put test video. You will get to see the different qualities of video they all shoot.

If it did 10+ zoom I'd be sold.

Hmm, SANYO Xacti VPC-CS1?

Not sure what all of the noise is though.

That could come down to the how they uploaded it.

The Sanyo VPC-CG20 looks pretty good.

If it says it uses SDHC, is it safe to assume there's no size limit? I need at least 16GB, but maybe 32GB if I can find a good deal.

EDIT: Actually the Sanyo VPC-CG100 looks quite a bit better. Better 12x zoom and 14MP. But I'm having a hard time finding anyone who sells it. I don't think it's available in the US yet.

Edit: Why is the CG20 up for pre-order when the CG102 is available now and the better device? Am I missing something here? It's also only very slightly cheaper. Hmm. Odd?

EDIT: You may want a class 6 card for the 60FPS mode.

I saw that. I hadn't heard of the SDXC (Extended Capacity) 64GB and above. The only 64GB card I could find was $400!

the Sanyo VPC-CG100 is on ebay for 299 with free shipping.

I'm going to be purchasing one of these guys too and I'm stuck between the SANYO Xacti VPC-CS1 with not the best specs and the CG100 with way better specs but a bulkier package. I decided the waterproof one was out of the question because if I wanted to I could just rig up a water-tight bag.

if you want to use it to make short film, movies, etc. then don't get them. But if you are just a casual video shooter, then there good to get , but you have to get a good one. You can consider buying Kodak PlaySport HD Waterproof Pocket Video Camera NEWEST MODEL...
