Where did the term: Fail originate? Not the word so much, but the larger use of it on the internet

If it's something on the internet, there's a good chance that it originated from 4chan.

Fail, as used on the internet, originated before 4chan's time. Your best bet is probably about 10-15 years ago when multiplayer 3D FPSs became common. IIRC Unreal Tournament said something along the lines of "epic fail" if you committed suicide (just like BF:BC2 does).

According to Wikipedia, it may have originated in an instance of Engrish in the 1998 Neo Geo video game 'Blazing Star'.

I never thought about where it came from before, but from a video game makes sense.
