The Novint Falcon Grip Challenge is officially underway!

Rules:
1. The contest will run from May 24 to August 1.
2. All participants must be member of The Best Case Scenario Forums.
3. All participants must also have a valid account at www.falconarmy.com
4. All participants must modify a Novint Falcon grip.
5. All participants must document the build process in a worklog titled "<username's> entry for the Novint Falcon Grip Challenge"
6. Documentation of the build must include pictures of the process and pictures of a finished product.
7. Users must post at least 1 (one) video demonstration of how the grip is meant to work (design theory, how to hold) in their worklog.

All participants get to keep their grip as a consolation prize!
Members will vote on the winner by sending me (d_stilgar) a Private Message. Their votes will be weighed into the final decision made by a team at Novint.

Judging will be based on design, quality of execution, functionality, and overall aesthetics.

When the contest is over the winner will receive a free Novint Falcon as their prize!

If you want to purchase a Novint Falcon (https://home.novint.com/store/store.php), please use the coupon code: modsandends. It will get you 20% off your order and Novint will know how much this contest is helping them!

I reserve the right to change the time line of this contest if interest increases or if it looks like participants need an extension.

Doh! I didn't notice this thread until just now...rules noted. ;)

Just to make sure, participants are not limited to a single entry, yes?

I'm glad I came across this. I actually started one of my grips but turned out I didn't mix enough hardener into the fiberglass resin and was a disaster. Now I can document the other design properly.

HELPFUL TIP: Don't buy resin gel for small projects. It's too thick and when using small patches it will tear them up when spreading the gel.

No, you are not limited to a single entry, but each entry should have its own worklog and if I need to send multiple grips out in multiple shipments I may charge you the cost of shipping. Also, because there is some swag involved I expect that all entrants actually finish what they start. There is a little more responsibility here to make something to be judged by Novint. We don't want the first contest they sponsor here to be the last.

Do we start the thread under this subforum, or which section?

You can start the thread in the TBCS Challenges Misc Projects area.

Tomorrow I'll be sanding down the new design and prepping it for some glass. I'm hoping the resin works in my favor this time around. Don't buy resin gel for small projects! lol

Make sure there's a good worklog. It's part of the rules and the judging!

A few things. First: Two weeks left! Get your mods done! I want some good complete mods.

Second, for those of you entering, make sure you stop by Falcon Army (http://www.falconarmy.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&Itemid=55) and register there. It's part of the rules that you register, so make sure you do it! It would also be nice (but not required) that you start threads there with your grip mods. It will give you some nice brownie points and introduce you to the falcon fans. We may also get some people over to TBCS!

It got a month extension because none of us had finished our entries yet...speaking of which... :whistler:

Yeah we are in the last six days. This will be your last weekend to work on this. Make it count. I don't want the winner to be the only person who actually finished something.

Hahaha, yup. I've been busy with house hunting the last few weekends but my realtor's actually out of town this weekend, so that worked out perfectly. :D

Woo for more entries! I will give out a last call to anyone who has started or just plain wants to do this. I am willing to give one more extension of a week or month if you are just dying to do this. Speak up before the end of tomorrow. Otherwise the contest ends tonight!

Hey everyone, just an update.

I emailed the guy at Novint at the end of the contest and he hasn't gotten back to me yet, which means he might not have even looked at your entries yet. As far as I'm concerned, those of you who have not finished can keep working until a winner is chosen. I emailed him again today and hopefully I'll get a response this week.

I got an email today. Looks like Tom and some other staff are going to look over the entries pretty soon and pick a winner. Cool!
