As some of you may know, a while back I picked up a Samsung 2343BW monitor on a whim. It's a great monitor; 23", 16:9 ratio, 2048x1152 res (~13.6% larger than WUXGA), thin bezel (~0.5"), touch-sensitive buttons, matte screen... It only has VGA and DVI inputs, and a kinda crappy stand, but that's fine with me, it made it cheaper. ;)

Now I've been looking around trying to find another, and it looks like Samsung stopped making them a while ago. I can still find some stores that have them in stock, but they're all limited to what they have on hand and Samsung has even taken down their product page for it. :(

It saddens me that Samsung dropped this line. It is truly a wonderful, cheap, high-res, high-quality monitor, even if it does have a kinda quirky resolution.

RIP 2343. May you live forever as a testament to a time of a strange resolution that came and went all too quickly. :*(

Ah, I know your pain! I sorely miss my Asus PG221. The best damn monitor I've ever owned, although it wasn't cheap. The average for 22" at the time was around $200. I paid... like $340. lol

I think they replaced it with a different monitor or something, which is why they stopped producing it. I wonder if Samsung did the same, or if they just simply pulled it?

I'm actually thinking about getting one of these, since I'm nutty when it comes to nice looking products.

It's crazy thin and has some decent specs. It's also just very nice looking, too. :p

Hmm, idk, personally I've never liked the 'laptop' monitor look, but hey, it's an Asus, at least you know it'll be great quality. The closest I can see to the PG221 that Asus makes now is the V224U (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236050).

Unfortunately, Samsung no long makes anything with a resolution higher than 1920x1200/1080. :( I guess not enough people bought the 2343. The Microcenter near me has a single one left in stock...I'm seriously tempted to go pick it up later this week once my paycheck goes through... :whistler: I really need to stop spending money...

Do you even use a resolution higher than 1920x1080? lol

Edit: Interesting fact: Your review is like 5 link's down on Google's first page of results. Nice!

Heheh, nice... :D And yes, I do use the higher resolution....as well as 3 other monitors.. :whistler: It's kinda like having another monitor (or 3..), you don't think it'll make much difference until you have it..and then you can't imagine living without it..

One of the greatest things about the resolution though, is that it is just enough bigger than 1080p that I can have stuff going in full 1080p..in window! For example, whenever I'm gaming and multitasking (ie, whenever I'm gaming..), I can run my game in a nice high resolution (1920x1080) but still have it in window, making it much nicer to switch out of it to other stuff running on my other monitors.

2048x1152 res

Ah, see I looked at one of these and decided not to on the basis I wanted better native support and a larger screen size, and I also worked out it would be the same viewable area as a 16:10 22" monitor.

I ended up with 2 * samsung 24" WUXGA screens and i'm chuffed with them, as well as the two cheapo 22" 1680*1050 screens I use too.

Sadly, the 245B has been and gone, but the 2443BW is still there and it's frankly much better (apart from brightness). You have better Samsung options out there!

p.s. how the hell do you lay out your screen so they even start to edge-match? The 2343 is a CRAZY high pixel density, class-leading, your cursor must really jump around between screens!

p.p.s you wanna write a multi-monitor guide for the forum with me?

But do you really need to have 1080p windowed when you have three other monitors?? haha (That's still a good point though. 1080p windowed is kind of nice. Although I would want a much bigger monitor. 1080p is kinda meh on a small screen, unless you're up close and personal... which we usually are... hmm. Just provided an opposing argument to my own argument. Nice... lol)

You need a dedicated room big enough for one person, where when you walk in its a dome of monitors surrounding you. :p

THIS. EXACTLY THIS.

The main reason for going high-res/windowed is to make it that much quicker and easier to switch between the game and another program. Instead of having to wait while the program exits full-screen mode and all the time-wasting associated with that, it's just a quick hop over to another window.

Heheh, how about a couple of these:

I prefer to stuff as many pixels as I can into as small a space as possible. you're right that they 23" 16:9 is only about the same surface area as a 22" 16:10 (~1" wider, ~0.5" shorter), but it has ~134% the real estate. Since I already have plenty of monitors anyways, I'd rather stuff more into a smaller space than use more space on my desk...which is rapidly disappearing.. :whistler:
I have this fantasy of building a giant wall using the 15" QXGA (0.1488) laptop panels you can get...the tech even exists now to do it! ...the only problem is that it would cost close to $1,000 per unit. (Also, the view angles would probably suck. :dead: )

...this is also quite tempting...I wonder how high it will go?
IBM T210, 2048x1536 20.8" panel (0.2064 pixel pitch).

A bit, yeah, the 2343 has a pixel pitch of 0.2486, the 225BW's 0.2821, and the TFT8030 0.2867. The change was quite noticeable at first, but I just got used to it. The 18.5" TFT8030 lines up pretty well physically, and I just kinda line up the center of the shared edge for the 225BW's, so it's pretty close.

Sure!

 The last 2343 from the Microcenter closest to me is gone now..

...this is not helping my 'don't spend money' campaign... ..there are 15 left at the Microcenter 20 minutes further away though...looks like I might be paying that one a visit soon as well.

Oh, it's not that mine is dead, it's that the line isn't in production anymore.

oh... ye... not much ya can do there but steal tech from InGen and get cloning! lol
