View Full Version : Fedex and UPS Suck

I had to order some parts to fix my car, and I've always just gone with USPS if possible as I can just pick up anything at the post office. That option wasn't there so I was forced to go with UPS for one thing and another company sent another Fedex.

So both Fedex and UPS couldn't figure out where the heck I live and won't deliver the package, even though they have the address correct and it takes two seconds on google maps to find it and directions. Both have delivered here before without issue.

So now I have to go driving for over/about two hours round trip to pick up things I already paid large amounts of shipping for. Not only that, but I have to fit it into Fedex's only two hour window of when you can pick it up.

Anyone have any shipping woes? Gotten the money they paid for shipping back?

Ordinarily, I have good luck with UPS. The guy who delivers where I live knows my house well. (A lot of deliveries come here.) There was only one time where I had a long wait from them. I had paid for 3 day shipping and the parts didn't come in until I think the 5th or 6th day. The weather was bad, like, lots of flooding bad, so I understood that delay. I'd rather have stuff delivered late than damaged.

Fedex is a completely different story. They claimed they drove by and couldn't figure out which house was mine. (There are 3 that share a driveway.) They didn't even turn in the driveway and try. I know this because I was at home eagerly waiting on the package. I received an email from them saying they couldn't deliver because my address was incomplete. This was on a Saturday evening. I called them and was told they didn't deliver on Sundays and Mondays. I told them to just hold the item for me and I'd get it myself since I couldn't trust them to deliver. I had to wait until Tuesday, and had to drive from north of Jasper to the far side of Birmingham (probably around an hour or better one way). Their building was hard to find, but I eventually did. I now try to avoid ordering anything shipped via Fedex.

No issues with either one and I live on a small single lane private road in the mountains.

Talk with the company you ordered from and ask for your shipping money to be refunded and explain why. They are usually good about it.

I've had problems with Fedex occasionally, but normally just with taking a long time to deliver stuff. UPS I've had to go pick stuff up from their distribution center a couple times, but that was just because I wanted it that day, or knew I was never gonna be home to sign for it. Since I'm never there during the day, anytime a company insists on delivering stuff to my home address instead of my work address, and a signature is required, I have to go pick it up. Fortunately, the UPS distribution center is about a 5 minute drive from my apartment, so no real trouble there.

It seems like it depends on where you live. Some places UPS is a hassle and some places it's Fedex. Oh well, live and learn.

And hope the place that works best for you is the one that stuff you order gets shipped by.

I don't have a problem with UPS as a company, but the delivery guy that always delivers to my building is an ass. I live in a typical 'H' shaped apartment building with the only entrance non-residents can use being in the middle of the building. It's a secure building so the UPS guy has to ring up to each person. A few years ago, he was a nice guy and delivered with no problems. He's gradually become lazy and incompetent to the point he doesn't even try to deliver the packages. I won't list all the dumb things he's done but lately he's not even ringing anyone to come down to the door. Nor is he even bringing packages inside. He parks out front for 10 minutes while he fills out a 'sorry we missed you' tag for each package, then he leaves all the packages in his truck and runs up to the door. He places a tag on each of the corresponding mailboxes and then skedaddles without a freakin' warning! He's done this a number of times in front of several people I know who happened to be checking their mailbox at the same time. One of my friends questioned the guy after watching him do this and the driver just repeatedly insisted that none of the people were home. UPS says they're looking into it and said they've received similar complaints about that driver...as of yet, nothing has been done about it.
But, looking past the few rogue drivers, UPS has gotten my packages to me safely and early on a number of occasions. The box my sway bar arrived in a couple weeks ago was in terrible shape, but I suspect the beating occurred from the inside...nothing UPS could have done to prevent that.

I got my packages fine last night, but it was a two hour round trip to get the one from Fedex. The UPS center was maybe 15 minutes away, and I didn't have to deal with the fruity 2 hour window fedex has.

When I talked to the representative at the centers, both had said I wasn't there when they had tried to deliver, though I was there the entire day. Then they said the main door to the apartment complex was locked so they just wrote bad address and left according to the Fedex guys notes. Ya, its an apartment complex; normally the main door is locked for security reasons, hence the buzzer. Once they saw the door locked they just decided to go instead of ringing the buzzer.

Both Fedex and UPS apologized, but the extent of their condolence went only as far as to say that it was better than leaving the package on the ground where anyone could take it. Could have just pushed the buzzer. . .

I'll just keep trying to get USPS when I can as it is far closer and easier to pick up packages than either. Don't feel like signing their form and letting a neighbor sign for it. Nothing against foreign people but a lot of stuff has gone missing in this apartment that way from talking with the few people in the apartment that speak English, so I don't exactly trust the ones I can't effectively communicate with in this place. Don't feel like playing charades to try and explain they have my package.

Just another reason to use USPS instead. It's cheaper, more reliable, the offices are open all day, and it has all the same features available as FedEx and UPS except for detailed tracking (though 'delivery confirmation' is getting close).

It sounds to me like they're just hiring morons that can't figure out very simple problems. I wonder if they even think about it...when they try to deliver it the next day, is anything going to have changed? As if maybe the building won't be locked the next day...or maybe everyone who's expecting a package will have taken a day off work to stand patiently at the door for 12 hours until their package gets there! What is their logical reasoning process like, if existent?

I dislike fedex because it seems to take forever to get anything
