Ok, to start off, I'll get this out of the way... It has been quite a long time since I have said this about a complete Apple product, but I am ..egh*twitch*.. actually rather impressed with the new Mac Mini (http://www.apple.com/macmini/). Mainly, the fact that they managed to shove a full C2D system including the power supply and either an ODD, an additional 2.5" HDD into a space 7.7"x7.7"x1.4". Even built on laptop tech that's fairly impressive.

I don't say this very often, so take it while you can, Apple. Good job.

...now pull your head out of your a** and lower the price already. No way on earth would I spend $700-$1,000 for that. -_^

I agree. While not a fan of Apple, it does look really nice. But the price? No way.

This is a pretty damn good home computer for the average user. But it's design is nothing new, and when it says a C2D, it's probably a mobile processor. It's simply a laptop motherboard in a square format.

Looks slick none-the-less

My current mac mini with a c2d is a T5600, which is definitely a laptop cpu. :) I"m sure this one is the same.

I spotted it this morning, and built one up online, quickly passed $1000, and decided it was a stupid idea. Hehe.. still, the size alone makes me want it!

Apple does two things right relatively consistently. Simple and attractive design and polished software.

Not that I'd ever buy one, though. Too expensive. I love Aluminum, but not THAT much. I'd rather buy a Dell Zino HD. They're okay looking and very affordable comparatively. Although, they aren't nearly as thin. (psh? that's like comparing my poop to my dog's poop. lol)

Edit: Hmm, okay, actually... they're not much different? Seems like the Mini might be better if anything? Then again, it's a hundred and sixty more dollars for the Mini. Which would you guys pick? I think I'd actually go with the Mini here... maybe...

Edit: Yeah, I'd go with the Mini. I can justify $100 for the Aluminum Unibody and another $60 for the better specs. Not that I'd still ever buy one, I'd rather build my own of course. :)

If you are talking about the Apple Cinema displays, yeah... pricey. Also, they are probably one of the best looking monitors I've EVER seen.

What make's the Cinema display worth $900 for 24"? Even the high-end LED 24" monitors are like $300 or around there. The specs look to be pretty much the same...

Well, I know all of Apple's displays use IPS tech instead of the normal TN tech. IPS produces much better viewing angles and I want to say sharper colors? But it's also a lot more expensive to manufacture. If you look at IPS panels from other manufacturers, they're all at least a couple hundred more than comparable TN panels. Combine that with the 'Apple tax', and I can see the price difference.

Apple Tax = Aluminum and Glass enclosure. Maybe also the mag-power connector thing, whatever that's called. And whatever other feature is a bit more unique to these products.

But I see where that price comes from now. I think I'll just stick to high-end monitors instead. Even if I bought THE BEST ONE I could possibly find, it'd still be cheaper and I'm pretty sure I'd be more than ecstatic with the quality of... everything. lol

I wish other companies made aluminum and glass enclosures. Me likey.

I bet OneslowZ28 lusts over the 30" Cinema Display. ;)

IDK about him, but personally I'd much rather have the Dell 30". Not only is it $200 cheaper, it's actually been updated in the last 10 years. ..ok, maybe 10 is a little harsh...maybe it's more like 8.. Seriously Apple, it's almost a $2,000 monitor...update the damn hardware.. -_^ If Apple would update the panel and switch to a LED backlight system, sure, that could be worth the $200 premium, but not as it is.

Haha.. we found a 27" LCD from Asus for $375 CAD, and ordered one to check it out, but it turned out to be 1080P at most, so the guys were all disgusted.

I'd still like one. ;)

As for the Dell vs Apple 30", I'm sure the Dell is nice and all, I'd still take the Apple one. :D

What are the spec comparisons between the Apple and the Dell? And I definitely like the look of the Apple more. The Dell isn't bad, it's just too ordinary looking for me.

Looking closer at them, their specs are about the same except for the contrast ratios. The Apple's is 700:1, and the Dell's is 3000:1 (both typical dynamic). Like I said, the Apple hasn't changed at all in many, many years. Granted they are pretty nice panels (there are a few at work that I get to use from time to time), but the tech is definitely noticeably...aging.

I think it's probably one of those things that you'd need to see them side by side to decide which is better.

That's how it is with TV's that are, for the most part, exactly the same. Samsungs always look better to me than any other. Vizio actually looks pretty decent sometimes too. I think there were a few Sony's I liked too. But Samsung has always been pretty consistent for me.

Not that bad for the price. I mean it is Apple and usually they're over a grand

If you were to make it out of plastic and downgrade the parts a bit, it'd match the Dell Zino HD. As it is right now, it's only like $160 more than the Zino HD. But, you're also getting aluminum unibody and slightly better parts. So it's probably overpriced by about... $40 at most? lol

So yeah, it's actually pretty surprising how justly priced this thing is. I guess even Apple isn't immune to recessions? That or they're like Nintendo. Charge next to nothing for the console, then charge full price for everything else.
