so i just had the worst computer day ive had in a loong time. I deceded to reinstall win 7 to fix my sound issue (see post in soundcard section). So after fighting with 7 for 15 min to get my mouse to work (razer and microsoft apparently hate eachother) i dug out an old PS2 Ball mouse and got my updates done. 20 min later i had a working mouse. after that i get a good portion of my content back on to the machine, and i decide to fire up MW1 to test the sound. Epic fail. skipping worse than before. I figure aaah.. no biggie... default driver must be ****ty (remembered reading it somewhere) so 4 different audio drivers later (every audio driver that exists for my card) including 1 open source driver that was written for it im still having the issue. My conclusion is that my audio card is going to crap, at the same time the system skipping is affecting (effecting?) my wifi, so i cant even get on live to kill some people (i use my desktop as a wifi antenna for my 360) to de stress. So tomorrow im tearing the machine apart, cleaning it, and leaving the audio card out. And as icing on the cake, i cant install my drivers for my 9800, so its using the 9800 drivers that win 7 includes. This is fine, as performance is the same. but i lose the nvidia control panel, which means the VGA cable that runs to my tv ( i know, but i havn't gotten around to getting a hdmi to DVI cable yet) creates an awesome ghost screen, so i have to manually unplug the cable so my windows dont skitter off onto the second display that i usually only turn on when im watching video online and wanna watch on the bigger screen. All in all, im annoyed, and flustered, and should just go to bed and deal with it all tomorrow...

Maybe you should try starting up with one of those Ubuntu live CDs and seeing if you still have sound issues. If you're card is still skipping when playing a video or something, then you at least know that's a hardware problem.

For a Monday morning, I am feeling generous.

I can help with the sound card issue. Replace it.

I am sure I have a dusty soundblaster audigy 2 sitting around. PM me, lets make this better...

just think how much less of a pain computers would be if you just didn't have a sound card. one less thing to break! And hey, if you got rid of the video, you'd be blissfully unaware of ANY issues it's having. As long as the power light came on, it would seem to be working :D

seriously though...I totally understand, I've had more than my share of those days too. My motto is "I've never encountered a problem I couldn't at least buy my way out of." LOL

Those days suck. But when you fix it you're on the top of the world!

yea.. so took everything apart today. got all my files recovered, figured out i can use the HDMI onboard for my mobo to run to that tv when i need to, and when the tv turns off so does the port (Awesome!) and i switched the sound to onboard, although it is a little flat, (i may have to PM you airbozo, thanks) it works again, and im halfway through reinstalling everything. i also came to realise how much this computer needed a fresh install, it works so much faster now... lol. i also pruned some wires that were unneeded on the powersupply, and freed up some space (someday if i need to i can put in a second hard drive in this bad boy now)... bad day over... just need a job, oh, and since the sound card is no longer covering my vid card fan my idle gpu temps are lower than my processors... not a bad end i suppose..

I know about bad computers days. I tried to have both Windows 7 and Linux Mint on mine. That equalled a nervous breakdown for Windows. I ended up abandoning Windows and just using Linux.

i figured out that the razer 1.01 drivers work, after you install all the updates for 7... lol.
