The Kindle is the same old Kindle, but now for only $189! The Nook is $199 for the 3G + WiFi version and only $149 for the WiFi only version!

I AM SO FREAKING BUYING A NOOK FOR $149!

I'd say go for the Nook! It not only has a memory card slot, but it also has more supported formats. Then there is also the WiFi only version. I mean really, do you seriously need 3G with so many WiFi spots around? or can you not wait until you have access to a computer to get a new book? The 3G is nice, but hey, if you want to save $40 without really maiming your device, then there you go. :p

I'd get it just for the card slot though. That might be just me, but I have about 5GB's worth of books on my PC, not 2GB. I want to carry them ALL, just in case. :p

Is it possible to buy a nook in Canada?

Just buy a book. Paperbacks can be had as little as $1 at the used book shop and $5 new....

Or you could go to the library for free.

Second the above plus that it's so much more relaxing to read on a paper compared to an illuminated display.

i love paper, however, when i go to school i have no room whatsoever for my books, so an ereader is perfect for what i need...

I love paperbacks, but I have to be honest I have *WAY* too many of them. If I could have as many copies of my entire library as I want on as many microSD cards as I can keep track of instead of the three bookcases and four large cardboard boxes I'm using now, *and* be able to take them all with me wherever I go..... Yeah. I don't like paperbacks that much.

I am already pondering what I can sell to get $150.

If I get a Nook, I'll still be buying the actual book eventually as well. They really should sell a digital version along with the actual book. Even if you have to buy Hardcover, as I do anyways. :p

I just love books though. I would love to have an actual personal library someday, that'd rock. I want... two walls covered entirely in books. Heck. Yes.

But the convenience of such devices is just too great to hold off on.

If you ask me, reading a hardback book is like watching television while you're sitting on a rock. It's just not comfortable.

My father in law bought a Kindle (Ok he got one for his birthday), and I tried using it, but hated it.

I used to keep all the books I had read and then realized all I was doing was looking at them. I pruned down all of my books to the ones I use for reference. I traded them in to a used book shop for credit (they give you a one for three credit), and it took over 3 years to use my credit up. Now when I read a book for fun, I will save a few and take them to a place in town where I live that has a sort of freebie library. Leave a book, take a book sort of thing. Lately though all I read are tech pubs...

I never re-read books so I figured there is no reason to keep them. Just like movies. I don't understand how people can amass a large collection of movies. I mean you have already seen it, and know the plot and ending. Why watch it over and over again?

That's a good question. Why do we enjoy watching things we've already seen? Just like with Avatar. I was THIS close to turning around once I got outside to go see it again.

I wonder if it's related to memory? I usually have to wait a few months before I'll enjoy something again, unless it's of exceptionally high production value.

But I suppose, that it's a lot like Ice Cream. You've had Ice Cream before, right? Why have it again? You know exactly how it's going to taste right? :p

Nothing beats the feeling of reading a real, physical book, but as others have said, sometimes it's just not realistic to carry around all those books.

You forgot the smell! Oh the smell... I don't know why I like it, but I know I'd wear it if it were a cologne.

"Hey, you smell like an old library!"

"Why thanks, and yes, yes I do! :D"

"Want to go read a book together?"

"I'd like that!"

....ahh... someday I'll meet the girls of my dreams. haha

Edit: Hmmm, plural huh? Apparently my subconscious is trying to tell me something... lol
