Is taking a 3.66Ghz P4 to 4.0 Ghz cheating?
Congratz, what's the cooler setup?

Been there, done that. I had my P4 3.2GHz OC'd to 4.12GHz on phase change cooling at -25C

This is on a Thermaltake Prowater 850I and single 120 rad. Its running about 55c. Once I throw the Danger Den setup on it I hope to see 4.2-4.5ghz.

I keep my 9770 at 4.0, but I haven't been able to break that. That's with a multiplier of 9, (If I remember right) but everytime I increase the multiplier by one, it bsod's. grr

I had to drop my friends multiplier and raise his base frequency to make it pop 4.0Ghz
Sits @ 4.126Ghz right now.
Plain ol' CoolIT Vantage ALC for a cpu cooler.
My 955 doesn't want to budge off of 3.7Ghz.. but hell...3.7Ghz is the fastest processor i've ever owned period.

Congrats!
I haven't overclocked yet. Want to but haven't gotten to do much work on Powerthirst lately. Fall semester started way too early. :(
thats CHEATING!
Agreed. I think you should add a rule; if you didn't overclock it yourself, you can't join the club. :P

I bought the chip. The mobo is for review.
Heres a new 4GHz member PC from my house :)

hey Trace the P5E says it'll take DDR2 1066 and 1200(OC). does that mean I can buy DDR2-1200? or just buy 1066 and OC it to 1200? and what's a good kit to get (4GB min) that would be good for OC?

Honestly, I've never gone above DDR2 800
I think it means you need to overclock (the FSB) to hit 1200. You can ALWAYS (almost) buy RAM that is faster...it will just underclock...
As far as overclocking, Google is your friend.

Hit windows at 4.7Ghz+ (I'll have a screenie soon)

my mainboard is DDR3-1333 DDR3-1600 (OC)
you have to have DDR2-1200 memory and then set the FSB ratio to 1200, its like a XMS memory setting, or you can do like you said and but 1066 and oc it to 1200 but i'd worry about stability issues and stuff.
i've noticed it always works best when you go back and set up the memory manually after setting up those XMS profiles, but my DDR3-1600 is at 1:4 ratio, 8-8-8-8 2T, but when i first installed it it was DDR3-1333 @ 11-10-11-24-1T or something, then when i switched it from 1:2 to 1:4 (1600) it went to something crazy like 11-14-11-11 so i went back and manually set it to what it was supposed to be
use CPU-z and look at the memory tab to see your memory speed and its latency Tras and all that jazz for it, scribble it down and figure it out in the bios.
