it's just the right thing to do

He'll still probably report it stolen/undelivered and get a 2nd one for free. Maybe I should have fedex come pick it up and redeliver or something.

And of course it was some ungrateful prick.

My hardware/Computer is superior because it has a apple logo on it
Don't you know?

He even had the little apple in the rear window of his blue vw golf.
This kinda stuff happens all of the time though. I'm always doing the right thing but it's never. ever. returned. If karma is real, I should be winning the lotto any day now.

Here's what I'd do...
Go to him and tell him that you have his iPhone, but then tell him as a reward for you being a nice guy for not keeping it, he should let you keep it anyways and then he himself can report his delivery missing, as it is missing due to improper delivery. Nobody else would have to know but you two, and you'd get a sweet new phone out of the deal if all goes to plan.
You live, you die. That's it. Something so small and insignificant as an iPhone is hardly worth judging one's own value and morals over. Depending on the situation, of course. But nobody is losing out or getting hurt in this situation, so I'm prone to be okay with it. (Except the Delivery Guy. But hey, this will be doing him a favor in the long run. He'll no longer deliver to the wrong address. I also doubt he'll get fired over something like this unless it's happened before, which in that case, he shouldn't be delivering. It's a win win situation all around!)
or you could just give it back to him and be done with it, save up your money and then buy your own. *shrugs*

Hardly superior.

You act like you're doing him a favor giving it to him, thus securing his place as an iDrone. If you were truly merciful you'd destroy it and set him free.

Oh good, I wasn't the only one thinking that. ;)

Or he could report you to the police, since stealing things out of the US mail is a federal offense (not sure how much that applies to private shipping companies, but still).
But nobody is losing out or getting hurt in this situation, so I'm prone to be okay with it.
Somebody somewhere has to foot the bill, whether it's the delivery guy, the poor factory worker who slapped the shipping label on it, or somebody with even less to do with the whole thing. Or do you really think nothing happens when merchandise disappears?

Someone somewhere made the mistake, so that person would reap what they sow. It's not necessarily wrong, it's not necessarily right. It just is. If that person gets punished, well they deserved it at least didn't they? They're accountable for their own actions, just like everyone else.
And how would they report you to the police? I assume that the right address was on the box, therefore how would the delivery guy remember what place it was mistakenly delivered to? Nobody would know who ended up with the iPhone so nobody can report you to the police.

Buzz +1 For honesty!
I've had some of the review stuff for this site get delivered to the neighbors. They brought it to me

I'm not gonna touch that one. Your moral are your business.

Well, if you did as you suggested and told your neighbor about it, then all he would have to do is follow you home and give them your address and description.

I don't have morals unless it actually matters. Like, seriously matters. An iPhone is such a petty thing. A car or someones life or well being or something like that would be different, etc. But an iPhone? Meh. I'm not saying I would steal someones iPhone from right underneath them, because it's "such a petty thing", though. That would be completely different and I would absolutely never do that. But I'm pretty sure the worse that would happen is that the delivery guy would get in a bit of trouble, the company would cover it while he pays it back over time, or some other kind of punishment would take place. I can see this being a fairly common thing to happen, so I can't imagine the punishments being overly harsh. But he really shouldn't have goofed the delivery in the first place though, and after getting in trouble I doubt he'd ever make that mistake again. So it's not like it's all bad.

Not if he's in on it. That's what I was saying. Bring the phone back to him, if he doesn't want to do it, then that's fine. But if he does, then he'll let you keep the phone while he files a complaint and then he'd get another one. It'd probably be wise to hold onto the package for awhile until you're sure nobody is going to come back and be all like sorry we didn't mean to deliver that to you, can we have it back? etc.

I think what really annoys me most is that he kinda got an attitude about the box being opened. Not the ipod's box... the shipping box.
I handed it to him and said "sorry about opening your package..." and he says "couldn't help to see what was in it right?"
...ya... or I just get packages pretty often and I don't check packages delivered to MY house for who they're addressed to because it's always me.

Doesn't anyone know about IMEI numbers? The individual phones are probably logged on the way out of the depot.

Actually no. Read up on them quick though, and that's pretty cool. I didn't know something like that existed. Knowing Apple I would be very surprised if they don't log them all and block one if it's reported undelivered/stolen/etc.

That's actually a good point. That doesn't just sound like something Apple might do, it sounds like something most companies in general would do. Well, so much for my idea. lol
At least he got to see the box! Lucky bastard! /s lol
