Hey does anyone know why the sound activated lights in my brothers speaker system might not be working as well as they used to? Is it fixable?
They only flash when you really crank the volume.
Thanks!

The effect from the speakers is used to light the LEDs (most likely it's LEDs anyway). I can't really think of any solution except changing the LEDs.

Well the LED's work once it's cranked up, so I was thinking maybe it's the sound activator mahjigger?
These are the speakers, btw.

Its most likely a pickup or opamp dying. Not much he can do unless he knows what chips are what.

Oh well. It still sounds great so that's what matters. They were pretty cool when they lit up though. lol

i'm thinking you could buy a sound activated CCFL kit and some how mod the module to the led's for the speakers.

You should first figure out how the LEDs activate. Turn the volume to zero and make a loud noise next to the speakers. If the light up they're sound activated, if not they're wired parallel to the speakers and the actual power from the sound is used to power them.

I don't think they've ever responded to outside noise, now that I think about it. And I just clapped loudly right next to one and nothing happened.

I've got that same speaker set (except blue not silver) and my lights have only come on with the volume cranked since day one. either cranked or a sudden noise (gunfire, etc)

Maybe get some LEDs that need less power, or if there's a resistance maybe you could switch to a less resistant one ^^
