Given the definition of "geek" it's more like a complement.

I love that. Someone intends to insult you but actually compliments you instead and doesn't even know it, managing to compliment you and insult themselves at the same time.

Irony is beautiful.

Back in the 90's and earlier geek was not the in-thing. With the technology revolution we have became the in-thing. The person who said this to you is either:

A. Jealous of your knowledge of all things technology related.
B. Someone who is stuck in the past and views progress as the devil.
C. Just a dick head who hates who he is, so he calls you a name to make himself feel better.
D. Someone who realizes that you have more potential than them to earn a better living due to your advance knowledge of technology.
E. A douche who deserves to be kicked in the nuts Eric Cartman style.
F. All of the above.

Either way he was complimenting you by trying to insult you. I learned a long time ago that if I was happy with who I was, then screw everyone who didn't. There will always be haters no matter what "genera" or "click" you fit in. An old ghetto saying "pimpin ain't easy". I stand here to day and say "Geeking is not easy".

Really?

A carnival performer specializing in bizarre and unappetizing behavior.
:P

Seriously though, I completely agree. IMO it's one of those terms that was 'supposed' to be derogatory, but the community ended up embracing it. Kinda like 'hacker' and 'pirate'. I laugh every time people talk about 'hackers' on TV because it more often than not just shows how hideously out of touch with the people they're trying to describe they are.

That's strange that someone just called you a geek out of no where. Were you doing something particularly geeky at the time (i.e. walking around with a probably unnecessary number of portable electronics, arming your car with a coil gun, reenacting your favorite medieval themed movie in full costume with a paper towel role sword. etc)?

arming your car with a coil gun

No plans for car mounts atm, but I have been considering a turret... :whistler:
