.....really.....is this the level of hacker out there? Well don't need that firewall, we'll just unhide that wireless SSID cause its just to hard to remember the name and lets drop the WEP while we're at it.

I wonder the same thing a lot of people are. How long before his computer was actually hacked into. Or did all the real hackers of the world feel sorry for him and leave him alone?

He probably woke up the next day with his harddrive full of midget porn.

I wouldn't dare to attempt to break into his computer, it's probably Kevin Mitnick pretending to be a 12 year old to lure people into some sort of ingenious trap...

More like most that saw it probably had a good laugh and went on their way, much like us. I wouldn't be surprised if someone decided to...teach him a lesson..though. ;) Incidentally, I checked, and that IP address that was trying to connect to him is owned by AOL.

w00t! Got sigquoted!

Anyway, I took a look at his profile and his profile pic is Justin Beaver which only strengthens my theory.

Are you sure you're connected to the internet? That's very important. Is your reception good?

:P

On another note, when I try it, I get:

No command 'tracert' found, did you mean:
Command 'tracert6' from package 'ndisc6' (universe)
Command 'tracer' from package 'pvm-dev' (universe)
tracert: command not found

:whistler:

The command is called
tracepath [hostname] or
tracepath [hostname] in linux systems. And for those of you who hasn't figured it out yet this command, like tracert, pings all the things that your connection passes through in order to get to its target (routers, servers, etc). The reason it sometimes say "no reply" or something similar depending on which OS you're running is that some of those things are programmed to just swallow pings to make it harder for crackers to map their server architecture.

@TheGreatSatan are you including the http://? Because that's not part of the hostname, it's the protocol used by the web browser to read internet pages.

Yes, I know. I was simply extending the mocking to a different level. Also available on some *nix systems are traceroute and traceroute6.

What's really annoying is when somebody decided it would be a great to block all ICMP traffic at a certain level in the network topology...so all your traces die at their firewall.. Yes, ok, it's a little more secure, but that doesn't help me find out why you can't connect to something. -_^

Darn, I'm usually pretty good to pick up irony but it seems I've failed this time. Maybe we need to use a certain sign (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irony_punctuation) when we're being ironic?
