Pretty cool seeing some people I know on the national news tonight. They have reported that a few minutes after the segment aired, their server proceeded to melt down. Its stuff like this that make me proud to be part of the maker revolution.
The video is on the CBS site and out [m] tag will not embed the video. So click the link below to watch.

Save up for a few months. It seems to be a constant 2 month back order anyway.

I really want one. There's so much I could do with it.

My McWire RepStrap should be finished in a month or so. I am working with Seeed Studio on enhancing the Gen 3 Electronics for Mendel use. Should have a working set in a few weeks.
Nice! I love seeing the hacker/maker community get good press. :D A Mendel is on my list of mid-term projects I want to do...I just have to clear off the short-term projects first...oh, and buy a house...I need to do that too. :P

that would be saweet.... lol... just imagine if you got one that was able to use copper, custom watercooling made easy? i think so... even the way it is you could use a flat copper block and use the makerbot to create the flow channels (in a plastic cover piece).... very very cool tool
I haven't seen any plans anywhere for a DIY-able metal extruder, I think mainly because the temps required are out of the reach of most of us. :(

If you check out Hack A Day there are plans on there for a SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) machine. It will melt layers of powdered metal that are deposited.
Reprap is working on the metal extruder though. Somone had some success with solder but it was scrapped for some reason.
I am going to put up $100 a week and buy a makerbot I think.

Heh, personally, I'd like to make my own. REason? Because I don't make anything else.... also so I can make it change tools from extruder to a cutting do so it can do CNC.

Heh, It's not hard, but it's the money that's the issue!

exactly, and I wish I had $100 a month to spare, let alone $100 a week lol

I never said I had it to spare lol. But a robot that prints 3d objects is a necessity right?

If you're an engineer, yes!
