So you have not been able to figure out what to buy with that $100k you have just laying around? How about a Jet Pack!

New Zealand—based Martin Aircraft Company announced a $12 million joint venture to build a factory for producing a new kind of jet pack. Only, the pack doesn't have a jet engine at all. The craft uses a 200-hp engine running on ordinary gasoline to power two ducted fans. Riders can cruise for 31.5 miles at the FAA-mandated maximum speed of 63 mph, controlling pitch and roll with one hand and yaw and throttle with the other. The company is charging around $100,000 for the first units. Owners won't need a pilot's license, but they will have to pass a mandated training program.

Have you HEARD the sound it makes?

Anyway, this thing reminds me of the reapers in Starcraft 2:

I saw that on one of the TV specials. The thing looks cool, but it has a very limited flight time right now.

All that kept going through my mind was: "Great, not only do you have to worry about falling out of the sky, you also have to worry about your jet pack landing on you", Which I voiced out loud and my wife turns to me and says while holding back a giggle; "You are freaking strange!".

If I had a spare $100k sitting around I would be the first on my block (heck probably state) to have one...

I'd have a lot of other things if I had 100k laying around.

This is a perfect match for one of my favorite phrases:

"If I were Bill Gates..."

"If I were Bill Gates..."...I wouldn't be wasting my time looking at cruddy properties* online.

*'Cruddy properties' are defined as any property assessed under $50 million.

I'd buy that duplex though...when I was younger I thought about maintaining my own rental properties like my uncle...he advised me against it though in addition to providing landlord horror stories. Most renters apparently 'don't give a damn' when it comes to just about anything.

You can get a 2-3k sqft home in areas here for about 150-200k. If you look in the more exclusive communities like mine the new construction will run in the 5-700k range for 2-4k.

 I am continually frustrated by the massive price spikes around major population centers..
