Hey guys, it's been awhile! My girlfriend was in Italy for a month as part of a summer opera school program, and I flew out there for the last couple days of the program, after which we spent 8 days in Florence and Rome (with an afternoon visit to Venice). Aside from the heat/humidity, it was a fantastic vacation, and I proposed to her at sunset on steps near the Piazzale Michelangelo (it's on a hill on the south side of the Arno River in Florence, and overlooks the city). Needless to say we're very happy, although we haven't set a wedding date yet. I'll post some of the pics as soon as I go through them, there's almost 1800 that I took. However, as a teaser, here's a few:

Where I proposed. well, ok, it's not quite the spot but it's really close. It all looked the same anyway LOL

The ring:

Us at the Piazzale Michelangelo terrace, overlooking Florence. This was taken a few hours before I proposed. I dragged my poor fiancee all over this hill trying to find a good spot. There were a lot of tourists everywhere...

And..... St. Peter's Basilica. I look at my photos now of the Duomo in Florence and it looks so plain...despite the fact that it's spectacular in its own right. Anyway, St. Peter's is absolutely stunning, and I was amazed that they allowed photos in there.

Congrats!

St Peters is amazing. That's one of the problems with living in the US; 'old' architecture here is maybe 200-250 years old, and usually built quickly and on a relatively small budget. ...compared to Europe, where you have stuff like Saint Peter's, which is almost 400 years old, and was built over a 120 year period with a basically unlimited budget. Stuff over here just pales in comparison.

Outstanding! The detail on that ring is insane! I bet she is one happy girl. Nice job on the venue as well. Wishing both of you many happy years together!

My friend did this. It was a pretty fun, laid back party.

Wow, not sure how I missed this thread until now, but congratulations!

I have to agree on the ring, WOW. I don't know why but it brings Galadriel to mind...

Here's hoping your marriage is as great as mine has been. Thirteen years in a couple of months, and the best thirteen of my life.

Best to both of you!

thanks guys! She's still looking at the ring and saying "wow we're engaged!" several times a day LOL! We've been looking forward to married life practically since we got together, and heck, she's fully supportive of my modding tendencies. What more could a guy ask for? which reminds me...I still need to start up on my Rivendell mod...ok...*her* Rivendell mod... :D
