I started this project four months ago. I had an idea about a custom computer case with high performance and superior liquid cooling. Where I put the radiators in front, instead of stuffing them into a case. I wanted to go big. Here are some pics of the 3D model in Sketch-up.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/case/case_image_0.png
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/case/case_image_2.png
From the beginning I wanted to get sponsored. I wanted to see how the process worked. Since I work at AMD, I had an advantage. I got to talk to the marketing department and learned what was needed. I came up with a game plan and wrote out a proposal. This process took a long time, a lot longer than I thought. I took my time and researched on writing a proposal. Got the website up and running at www.templeoffusion.com. And it paid off, big time. I got sponsored by two companies. The first being AMD, for the computer part of the build. The second, EK Water Blocks, for the liquid cooling part of the project.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/_images/ek_logo.gif
Now the sponsoring part is over, time to start building. I started out by laying out the base.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl3_27_2010/layout_pic_0.jpg
Once this was done, I got the radiator brackets completed.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl7_11_2010/rad_braket_6.jpg
Then got the walls of the Temple cut out. This case is going to be huge. But I like to say, “Go big, or go home.”

Welcome to TBCS and congrats on the sponsors!
This looks interesting...I love overkill. :D The fins in those rads look like TFC's style, and I think I see an emblem there on the side; am I right?

Thanks for the welcome x88x.
You are right about the TFC radiators in the pic. But I will be using EK CoolStream RAD XT in the future. Just haven't gotten here in the mail yet.

AMD is hooking me up with some great gear. I am sure the don't want to lose me. Also learned a lot from the marketing dept, but I stay in engineering.
I did work for Intel for 6 years, but I like working for AMD.

I didn't get too much done this week, besides running to and from the store. For the wood working I got some new toys, I mean tools :) I got a cordless planer and circular saw. This made my life a little easier.

From Slovenia, With Love - 8/1/2010
I got my first package from Slovenia, and like James Bond, I get all the high tech toys. EK sent me two of their CoolStream RAD XT 480 radiators. These radiators are great quality, and are going to make the obelisks look great. Here are some pics.

I cannot call myself a “modder,” if I cannot fix a simple problem like this, so I ran down to Ace to pick some parts. I quickly took the sander apart, and got it fixed.

Feeling a Little Sick - 8/8/2010
I didn't get too much done this week. I am feeling 'under the weather,' so I took it easy. The only work that I got done was getting the radiator brackets and sides all finished. Got the screw holes counter-sink and the sides cut outed. Hopefully I will get it put up next weekend.

Also I got my parts case in this week. It is a Cooler Master HAF X. I got if for the back panel and all the drive bays. Here are some pics.

Yeah, just for parts. I wanted to get the extended ATX case, which only a few cases have. I could have gotten the Mountain Mods E-ATX motherboard tray, but I didn't want the fan cut out. I ask for without it, but was going to cost an extra $75 for the custom cut. After the custom MB tray, and all the other parts (i.e. hdd trays), it would cost over $200, so I just bought the HAF X case. Has everything I need now.
Well I got my package early :D, so making the special post today.
In the mail, I got my DDR3-2133 8gb (2 x 4gb) OCZ Flex Memory. See the pics below.

One thing I noticed that is said PC3 15000, which is 1866MHz. However, it clearly has 2133 in the product info, and on OCZ website, it states PC3-17000. I have to call OCZ to get this straighten out. Hopefully it just a misprint, but I should have the right data rate on my freaking top of the line memory sticks.

Thanks. I wanted this memory for a long time. The speed and capacity are great, and has water cooling built in. Once it pop up on Amazon, I bought it right away.
I called OCZ today. The said it was just a misprint of their labels. They are not going to do anything to fix it. Not really a big deal, just hate paying for top of the line stuff, only to see a glaring misprint. Oh well. Here is a pic of the label up close.

The Temple has Arisen - 8/14/2010
Since I was sick last week, I had a lot of work to catch up on. I first started on getting the radiator supports finally done. I counter sinked the screw holes and got the sides on. They are looking good.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl8_14_2010/078.JPG
Next I worked on getting the Temple put together. I had to make some notches at the bottom so the tubes for the liquid cooling can run to the reservoirs ans radiators.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl8_14_2010/079.JPG
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl8_14_2010/080.JPG
Once the notches were taken care of, I put the Temple together. This thing is going to be huge.

Thanks. Yeah, once I start with the finishing, this case is going to look awesome. I ordered a brass sample pack and should get here early next week. Then I can figure out what gauge I want the brass accents. Also I can use the samples to test out my electro-sketching. The brass will be on the sides of the obelisks and on top the temple.
Also, I found a good stone stamp for the Temple. It can from my daughters Play-do toys. It really makes the bondo or concrete look like ancient stone. Still have to find a cobble stone stamp for the base.

Waiting Game - 8/22/2010
It seemed liked I got held back this week on two fronts. The first was I still don't have my reservoirs, even though the dealer said they will ship mid-week. I have no tracking number yet. So I could only go so far with the base.
First I had to get the base top layer marked out for the Temple. Then cut out the Temple section.

The top layer of the base. I looks like a space ship from a old video game.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl8_22_2010/DSCN2524.JPG
The second reason why I had to wait is that I need to get a laser printer. I need the laser printer to transfer the toner to the metal to do the electro-sketch process. I am going to pick up a Samsung color printer tomorrow. Hopefully I can try it out during the week. Here is the picture of almost all the set-up gear that I need. I have a car battery and charger that I am going to use to get the current flowing and etch the metal.

Looking good. I'll be interested to see how that etching works out.

Thanks.
Yeah, the metal etching should be one of the ‘wow’ factors for the case. The block paint will highlight were it gets etched. Seeing some examples, you can get really good accuracy. Now I just need to get a laser printer.
Here are the ‘wow’ factor stages. I will have multiple ‘wow’ stages for the computer. The first ‘wow’ would be the size of the case with the obelisks with the brass pyramids. The second ‘wow’ will be the metal etching details on the obelisks. The third ‘wow’ would be seeing all the small details, especially the stamped patterns for the Temple and the base. Then another ‘wow’ stage is seeing all the high end gear in the case, and that everything is water cooled. The last ‘wow’ will be how quite the computer is, because the only fans will be on the radiators and they are low noise fans.

Only a 1/2 Day
Since my wife and daughter are going out of town next week, I only worked a ½ day this weekend to spend time with them. I am going to take Thursday and Friday off, so I am going to have five days to work on the computer case with the holiday weekend. I will try to post every night with my progress of that day. Hopefully I can get most of the case done. The time line for the case is September 25th.
Since I got in a temp reservoir, I can finally get the base done. My custom ordered reservoir will get here about mid next week. I will post some pictures when they get delivered.
Here are the mock-ups that I did to get the measurements for the reservoirs.

Getting the final computer hardware for this project. Only have a few more pieces to get, so I decided to post the final list for the computer hardware. Awww, why the audio neglect? :(
Everything else looks awesome though. As good as you can get without going nuts (G34/Ares).
As I was reading through that list, I caught myself thinking "Dual 1kW PSUs? That's a bit overkill." ...and then realized how ridiculous that thought is in context. :P
I assume those two 20A plugs are on separate dedicated circuits?

Pretty soon I will be moving the computer from the upstairs bedroom to the basement. I have my 'man cave' set-up in the basement. Planning on connecting the audio into my Sony ES 5.1 system. Then I have some good Polk Audio speakers.
But I don't see the reason why to upgrade to an audio card. Working in the tech industry, I don't see too much upside. But then this computer is overkill, so what's another ~$100 :)
Maybe when I update my 5.1 set-up in the 'man cave' to a 7.1, I will get an audio card.
Here are some pics of the 'man cave.'

You are correct, two separate 20A lines. Will be hooking up 2 new lines in the basement, just for this computer :D

It all depends on your personal preferences I suppose. For me, the difference in audio quality was immediately noticeable even with a relatively cheap Xonar DX ($70, iirc). Having experienced the difference that a real sound card can make, I will never ever go back to integrated. Especially if you're hooking it up to nice speakers, you owe it to yourself to get a good sound card. Trust me, you won't regret it.

I think you have converted me over, but the audio card has to wait until later. I have blown the budget a couple of times already for this build. Plus it 'sounds' like a good gift that the wife can get me for Christmas :D

I have a great wife. We pretty much tell each other what we want for Christmas. For my birthday, she got me the Logitech G-15 keyboard.
Also, she knows that one of my childhood dreams was to own a Dodge muscle car. I was going to buy one when I was 17, but my parents screwed me over. Anyways, she told me a couple day ago that I could trade in my EVO to get a 09 Dodge Challenger SRT-8. I loved the Challenger as a kid, now I can finally get a MOPAR with a HEMI :D
Also, she was there for me going through chemo. At the same time she took care of are new born daughter. The day after my daughter was born, I had to go into emergency surgery. She held the family together during that time. So ya, she is a great wife.
Also, did you see the 'man cave' above :)

Starting a Little Late - 9/3/2010
Sorry that I didn't post anything up yesterday. I was planning on working on the computer case, put something else happen. One of my childhood dreams was owning a Dodge Muscle car with a HEMI. I really like the Challenger design. When I was 17, I was going to buy a nice Dodge Demon, but my parents screwed me at the last minute. Anyways, my wife knows that this is one of my dreams and she gave me the 'OK' to buy one of the new Dodge Challenger SRT8. So I spent Thursday cleaning up my car to sell it. Also had to get news tires and post it o Craig's List. Tomorrow morning, I am going to test drive a 09 Challenger. I cannot wait. Finally going to complete one of my childhood dreams.
Today I did get some work done on the case. The base didn't have enough space to run the tubing. So I got the router out and made some space. I cut out some of the top case for the room. First I drew some line out, then made the cuts.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl9_3_2010/IMG_0057.JPG
With the brass pieces in, I had to start moving on the electro-sketch. So with the new printer. I printed out the some Egyptian hieroglyphics. After the transfer I soaked it in hot water and it came right off.

Now it is the mad scientist part. I made a bath of copper sulfate. Then connected two pieces of brass to some wire. The wire will be used to connect to the battery and hold the piece in the bath. I put the working piece on the positive terminal, while I had another piece of brass connected to the negative terminal.

Can see the crud build up on the normal piece of brass. The brass does look like it got etched. You cannot tell by the picture. After I got the piece clean and all the toner off, I sprayed it with some black spray paint. Then I am going to sand it down tomorrow. Hopefully the black will highlight the hieroglyphics. Will have to wait until tomorrow to see what it looks like.

Learning the Art of Etching - 9/4/2010
I got to test drive the 09 Dodge Challenger SRT8 today and it was an awesome car. It is big and heavy, but I knew that going into the test drive. I really like the car, and it has the best styling of the three modern muscle cars. I am going to test drive a 07 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 on Monday for comparison. Just need to get my EVO sold. Here are some pics of the car.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl9_4_2010/chal2.jpg
I am still tweaking the etching process. The fist test didn't etch far enough into the metal. I was using bare wire to hold the piece of brass in the bath, and it was etching the wire. I switched over to a cover wire now and it works well. Here is a picture of the first experiment I did yesterday after some sanding.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl9_4_2010/IMG_0060.JPG
You can see the details of the hieroglyphics, but I needed more etching. Now with the wire problem fixed, I moved on to the second experiment. I tried a simpler graphic for this one. I think I am using to much heat when transferring the toner. I am getting spotty transfer, which lead to a distortion. Can see the process in pictures below.

Doors and Etching - 9/12/2010
I got the doors cut out for the project. Took awhile to make everything square, but got it done with a file. It going to be a nice touch to the case. To see what the doors are going to look like, I set up the brass plates.

I think I finally got the etching down. I had to change some setting with the printer to get more toner on the paper. Also I added in more pressure during the transfer of the toner from the paper to the metal. It seems to helped out a lot. Here are some pics of the process. Also can see the new versus the old way in the last picture.

I thought about doing stamped concrete for the temple and the base. One of my daughter's play-do toys had a nice stone pattern that would be great for the temple. I got out the Dremel and started cutting. Then I had to use a file to get the it clean. It started to become a pain and thought there has to be an easier way. After doing some research, I found that model train builders had brick and stone pattern panels for their models. Some of the patterns would work great for the temple and base. So I am going to switch over to model panels for the case. It will be a lot easier, and probable look better. Here are some pictures of the work that I did on cutting the stamp out.

Yeah, with the overclocking that I will be doing and the two 5970 cards, 1000W wouldn’t be enough. Also, I want the case to be future proof, and done right the first time. I can easily switch out the MB and GFX cards for the future and not worry about having enough power.

how do you use 2 PSUs in one system? ive always wondered...
If you join the ground (not entirely necessary but good to make sure you don't have conflicting ground levels on different components) and the green leads (power on switch), it should work. To fully power up modern PSUs have to have a decent load on the 5V rail and sometimes the 3.3V rail as well, but if you're hooking up additional components to it, that should take care of that.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/7137/bus-128/Bitspower_X-Station_Multi_PSU_Module_-_Blue_LED_BP-XSU-BL.html
You can have up to 4 PSUs connected to it. Does all the wiring for you, and don’t have to worry about power on.
Yup, that one does exactly what I said, just makes it easier. ;)

Sorry, should have given you the credit for the wiring.
No problem, I just wanted make sure nobody got confused and thought it was doing something more complicated.
I remember a friend of mine used to have an awesomely cludged together fileserver that he built over a few years while he was in college (thus the cludge..no budget). It was a little old P3, but it had I think 10 HDDs for a total of ~2TB, I think 3 add-in controller cards, 2 IDE and one SATA, iirc, and two cheap little PSUs. The second PSU was just kinda stuck on top, so the case wouldn't fit on...which he solved by just not putting it on at all. I guess he didn't know about this method for syncing PSUs because he had a secondary switch for the second PSU (it just powered a bunch of HDDs), and he had to make sure to always switch that on first. Oh, and the best part? This was all shoved into a tiny old uATX case. It was the most awesome blob of computer cludge I have ever seen. :D

The time that I did get on the case was designing the etchings that will go on the obelisks and the Temple's door. I found an Egyptian hieroglyphs font that really help me out. I will share the outside design of the obelisks. Will revel the inside and the doors later. Also, I did have time to drive done to the model train hobby shop. I ordered the model panels that I needed. Bad thing it make take up 10 days to get the panels. Hopefully I will get them late next week so I can work on the case.

Yeah, the GFX cards are not pushing the upper limits of PCI Gen2. I remember when PCIe (Gen1) came out, Tom’s Hardware tested it at 16x, 8x, 4x, and 1x lanes. The 16x, 8x, and 4x were all the same. The performance drop lower in the 1x lane set-up.
I wonder if you program? I see that you used “==” for equal.

Just the fact that there is "other stuff" makes me much more hopeful. ;) AMD seems to be playing their stuff a lot closer to the chest than Intel and nVidia recently.

I am doing better now. I still feel a little sick, but was able to work a half day on the case.
Taking it Easy - 10/3/2010
After the week from hell, I am taking it easy this week. Last week I had to go to the ER three times. Horrible facial pain, severe drug reaction, and contaminated blood cultures. I am alright now, but still a little weak from last week, so I took it easy and only worked a half day today.
My special order model panels came in and I drove my new Challenger SRT8 down to the hobby store to pick them up. They are going to work great for this build. And the scale of the panels are pretty close for this build. While at the hobby store, I pick up some supplies that I will need. Mostly paint and some brass edging. Here are some pictures of the panels. The first is a stone wall pattern and will be used for the Temple. The next is a cobble stone pattern and will use it on the top of the base.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl10_3_2010/IMG_0115.JPG
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl10_3_2010/IMG_0116.JPG
Next thing is I fixed the three sides of the Temple to the base. After screwing the sides in, I got to work on the door hinges. To make the panels flush on the Temple and the brass flush on the doors, I took some material out with my Dremel. Now the hinges will be flush and the panels and brass plating will not have a problems. I do need to do some sanding on the doors to get them open and close easier.

One of the back pieces was not flush, so I fixed it. There will be panels covering this, but needed to get is flush to work and look better. Now I will not have a problem when adding in brass trim.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl10_3_2010/IMG_0128.JPG
I got started on getting the panels cut out for the side of the Temple. One sheet doesn't have the length to cover the side. I plan on using two, and then cover the seem with some brass trim. I will make it so the trim is right in the middle of the side. The brass trim will give it more “bling” factor. In the last pic, you cane see the 90degree angle trim on the base.

Still Taking it Easy - 10/10/2010
I am still feeling the affects from last week and the three trips to the ER. I almost had to go to a fourth time, but made it through. It was another drug reaction. Sometime I feel like I am a Guinea pig for the doctors.
After thinking about it, I am not going to do the drawer for the case. It seemed to be more of a problem then actual being functional. So I just bolted the back of the case onto the Temple. Then took out the sander and got it all flushed.

I took out my frustrations on the Cooler Master HAF X case. I got it torn down and the parts that I needed. I needed the E-ATX tray and back plate. Also going to try to re-use the disks bays and connectors. You can see the tare down of the case, and all the poor rivets I devoured with the drill.

With the parts that I needed and the HAF X case torn down, I moved onto the panels for the case. I started on the base and the cobble stone veneer. The panels are not long enough, so I am going to separate them into two pieces, with a piece of brass covering up the seem. Also planning the same thing for the Temple. Here are some pics of the two pieces.

I got the chance to start painting the panels. I chose a spay paint from the model train store called 'dirt.' I doesn't look bad at all and fits into the ancient temple theme. The first shot is after the second spay, and the last shot is after the third spay. Looks like it will take about 4-5 coats to get the panels painted. The bad thing is the paint only comes in 3 ounce spray cans and each spray can cost about $4.50. This is going to be an expensive paint job, but everything about this project has been expensive :)

Yeah, the ‘dirt’ paint is a nice affect with the cobble stone veneer. Hopefully the ‘sand’ paint works out good with the stone veneer that I will be using for the Temple. I am going for the Egyptian sandstone look for the Temple. I guess I will find out next weekend.

lol awesome paintjob. Spray on adhesive and some real dirt might have been cheaper though! ;) lol probably wouldn't work as well though.

Maybe I can have plants around the Temple to offset the carbon foot print. With two 5970 cards overclock with a 1090T pushed to it limits, it is going to be a very large carbon foot print :D

1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Back - 10/18/2010
This week was a rough week for the case. It started out good by printing out the graphics for the doors and obelisks for the metal etching. Then it went down hill from there. I stated transferring the toner to the metal, but messed up the first two. The last two I could fix, by using a Sharpe on the spots the toner flaked off. The two eagles are the door design. Then the Egyptian design is for the inner obelisk.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl10_18_2010/IMG_0155.JPG
Then I started the etching process, and it didn't work. After thinking about it, I believe I left out the copper sulfate bath too long. Also, I could of hooked up the terminals wrong. After the last two weeks of hell with all the drug reactions, I wouldn't put it past myself that I hooked it up wrong. Anyways, her is the pic of the aftermath.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl10_18_2010/IMG_0157.JPG
I took a break from the etching to focus on the veneer panels. I tried out the 'sand' paint on the panels and it looked horrible. I quickly removed the paint. All the flacks in the 'sand' paint hid all the stone details of the panel. I have pick out a new sandstone spray and then paint the stone joints by brush, which is going to take some time.
After those two disasters, I focused on just cutting out the panels for the Temple and base. Here are some pics.

Medical Drama Continues - 10/31/2010
Sorry that I didn't post last week, but I got caught up in some more medical trouble. Basically my condition got worse and I had to take medical leave of absence from my job. I have some medical procedures that are coming up and I might have to get surgery. The doctors don't want me to work, however they want me to move around every day for at least an hour or two. I am going to use an hour of that to work on the case. The good thing is that I have short and long term disability insurance, so I am not worried.
Last week, I did have a chance to re-do some of the metal etching. I got three doors done. I would have got the fourth one, but the toner transfer didn't go to well. I have some black paint and will touch up some spots, but it looks good. Cannot wait to do the obelisks now.

Going Slow - 11/5/2010
I am taking it real slow with my medical condition and only working on the case ~60 minutes a day. It has been a real pain not to be able to work on the case like I used too, but there has been one good thing that has happen. Going slow made me take my time with the metal etching, and it paid off big time. I finally got the door etched they way I envisioned it. Now I can finish the other doors and move onto the obelisks inside and outside details. Here is the pic of the brass door panel.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl11_5_2010/IMG_0189.JPG
I will add in some more details to the eagles. There are going to look killer on the Temple doors. I did have a chance to transfer the obelisk's inside pattern onto the to the brass pieces. I went back in added in some more detail and black paint. They still need more paint work before etching. I hope I learned enough from the doors to make it look awesome.

Slowly Making Progress - 11/10/2010
I still cannot work on the case too much. The good thing is that the metal etching is not labor intensive. I got the flow down, and the metal pieces are turning out great. Here are the pics of the eagles for the doors. They need to be polished. I need to order another brass piece to complete the set. The door on the Temple are going to look great.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl11_10_2010/IMG_0190.JPG
While I wait for the new brass plate for the door to come in, I moved on to the obelisk's inside brass etch piece. I had to get a bigger tank to fit the longer piece. It makes my work bench look like a mad scientist lavatory. The first piece came out great. There are a couple spots I got to touch up on, but the hieroglyphics and images came out great. Here are some pictures.

It took some time to get the hang of the etching but it wasn't too hard. Mostly getting the right printer and using good transfer paper. Then setting up the mad scientist lab with the copper sulfate bath.
Do you have any links or pointers to computers mods that have used metal etching? I tried searching around and couldn't find too much. I was hoping that I would be the first.

Etching & Cleaning - 11/17/2010
I am almost done with the etching. The only piece left is one door panel. I screwed up the brass panel and have another panel on the way. It took a lot longer then I thought it would to get all the etching done. It is more of an art form. I really enjoyed the process and learning a new skill. Here are some pics of the work on the outside piece of the obelisk.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl11_17_2010/IMG_0216.JPG
When I ordered the door panel, I also got all the brass trim needed for this project. There is going to be a lot of trim and brass for this project. I need to get a polisher/buffer to help out getting all the brass pieces clean and shiny. I also need a good chop or miter saw that can cut brass cleanly. This would really help with all the trim pieces.
With the etching wrapping up, my work space was a mess. Had stuff everywhere and chaos was napping in the room. I spent some time cleaning up the work area and got everything organized. Now with chaos kicked out, I can get back to work. Before I started working, I took some pictures with the new brass. I hope that you like them.

With the etching done, I can move back to work on the Temple. I have to cut out the panels and and get them painted. Since I have the paint scheme already picked out, it should be fast. Then I can finally mount the obelisks to the base and get the few remaining pieces for the obelisks done. Also, I can not forget that I need to get the pyramids done for the obelisks. There will be some tricky cuts, but it is going to look awesome. With the Temple out, I wanted to see how well the E-ATX panel was going to fit into the Temple. It was not too bad. I have to trim a couple of places, but it should fit very nicely into the Temple.

Panels & Power - 11/24/2010
I finally got all the Temple veneer panels cut out. It took some time to measure things out, but I got it done. Now I just need to paint them and attached them to the case. Also I need to attach the base veneer panels too. However, I have to wait until I can get all the computer hardware hooked up, so I can make the holes for the PSU, Optical drive, USB ports, and so on. Also, I finally got my last door piece in the latest metal shipment.

Next thing that I did was get the E-ATX tray to fit into the Temple. I got the Dremel out and started to cut out the extensions on the tray that were not needed. After I cut the extensions, I did have to shave about 1/8th inch from the long side. After that, it fit like a glove.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl11_24_2010/IMG_0234.JPG
The next thing on the list was to get the holes cut out for the PSUs. The PSUs will be on the bottom of the Temple with the pumps and the tubing for the reservoirs and radiators. I am going to keep the PSUs on the edges.

All my edging come today in a very long tube. I saved a lot of money buying the longer pieces and then cutting them down to size. The money saved easily bought the chop saw that I needed, with a lot of money left over. I am glad that I have a large garage to fit all the metal.

Beginning to See the Light - 12/2/2010
Now that I got the last brass panel piece for the doors, I could finally finish the metal etching. I am getting pretty good at the process now. I transferred the toner, fixed some of the problems with paint, then gave it a nice etching bath in copper sulfate. There are some spots to touch up, but I am really happy that I am done with the etching. It was a great learning experience and adds a lot to the case. Cannot wait to get the doors and obelisks up to see how it all looks.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl12_2_2010/IMG_0265.JPG
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl12_2_2010/IMG_0274.JPG
The next part was installing the tabs for the E-ATX tray. Since I had a level line from last time, it was easy to cut out some tabs and get them screwed into the sides of the case. Then I drilled the six spots on the tray and screwed the E-ATX tray to the tabs. Then checked to see how level it was, and it was pretty damn close to being level.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl12_2_2010/IMG_0254.JPG

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl12_2_2010/IMG_0253.JPG
Next part was getting the MB panel and expansion slots installed. I first had to fit the panel back onto the tray. Once on the tray I could get some markings on the back. The it was a matter of outlining and cutting. Then a little extra trimming in a few places. Then I screwed the MB panel & expansion slots into the back of the Temple. Now it is finally looking like a computer case.

Now with the power supply and E-ATX tray finished, I moved onto making the finally pieces for the obelisks. I know that I should have done this a long time ago, but it is not the funnest job. Basically there are three pieces. Two in the front to cover the top and the bottom. Then the last piece will be in the back on top. This will help support the brass pyramid that will be placed on top.

I got 50lbs of Merlin's Magic. It is used in casting. In my last post you saw that I got some molds that have an Egyptian theme to them. Yeah, I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel for this project. After I get the veneer panels, brass edging, and the pyramids for the obelisks done, the outside of the case will be pretty much done. Then can start focusing on getting the computer up and running.

Painting and Molding - 12/14/2010
It has been awhile since I updated last time. I haven't been feeling the greatest and taking things slowly. With the new table, I organized some things and got a lot of the brass pieces and the base painted veneer panels altogether in one spot.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl12_14_2010/IMG_0277.JPG
After I got everything organized with the new table, I started painting the Temple's veneer panels. I first painted the panels a grayish white. Then I used brown shoe polish to bring out the texture of the panels. Also, using the brown color with the gray gave me the color I wanted for the Temple. At first I wanted to go with a light browning, then decided to go darker. It just looks better darker. Here are some pictures of the process.

After the painting and staining was done, I moved onto the molding. I never tried molding before so I just did some test runs. First I tested out the floor pattern, then moved onto other molds. Here are some pictures.

Edging & Molding - 1/6/2011
Sorry it has been awhile since I gave an update. The holidays took their toll on me. Also, I am still not feeling too good, so all my energy went into family, which is my first priority. Now that the holidays are over, I can get back to work on the case.
With the new chop saw, I cut out the edging pieces needed for the top. I still need to get the side pieces for the top, but ran out of metal. I am planning on trying to use all the brass angle I have before ordering some more.
I found the best way is to cut with the chop saw using the 45degree setting. Then using the sander with its 45degree. This gets a good 45degree cut with the edging. Then with the sander, you have good precision on the length.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_6_2011/IMG_0299.JPG
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_6_2011/IMG_0300.JPG
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_6_2011/IMG_0369.JPG
These are the pieces for the top of the Temple. There is edging on the top rim and bottom rim.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_6_2011/IMG_0370.JPG
The front corners of the temple were a pain to do. Since I have the two bump outs for the front of the Temple, it made edging a pain in the ass. I fist had to cut out a square piece in the front edging. Then I had to sand/grind in the 45degree cut. But at the end, it was all worth it. I learned/figured out something new.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_6_2011/IMG_0376.JPG
The last edging I got done was inside corners of the bump outs, by the doors. I had to grind the pieces in to fit. The Temple is looking good. I ordered a buffer, and it will come in next Monday. It will really help out polishing all the brass pieces and edging.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_6_2011/IMG_0379.JPG
When doing the edging, I have been doing the molds too. I know I will need a whole bunch of these pieces, so I am trying to do much as I can. Here are some pictures of what I have done so far.

Pyramid Power - 1/13/2011
I am glad to say that this week has been good for me. Not only that I am felling a little better, the health insurance is going to pay for the surgery that I need. We (the family) are really excited and I am counting down the days. Until then, I will continue to work on this case.
With the edging finished for the lid and the upper part of the Temple, I moved on to finish it out. The first was getting the corners pieces done. The back ones were a little difficult because it interfered with the PSUs. It didn't take too long with a sander to fix the problem. Once the corners were done, I got the inside angle on the side of the Temple and base done. Here are some pictures of the process.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_13_2011/IMG_0381.JPG

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl1_13_2011/IMG_0383.JPG
To get the outer base edging done, I finally had to mount the obelisks to the base. I used some long screws, and it is fairly secure to the base. After that, I got to work on cutting the brass edging. The bad thing about the outer base edging (1.5inX1.5in), I couldn't do 45dgree cuts on the chop saw, because of the size of the edging. I had to do a straight cut, then used the sander to get the 45 degrees. It took awhile, but the look of the edging is going to make the base look great. Here are some pictures of the process.

I only screwed up one piece of edging. I will order it this week, and hopefully shows up next week. With the edging done, I can move onto something I been waiting to do for a long time, build the pyramids for the obelisks. Since it is not a square bottom pyramid, but a rectangle bottom pyramid, it was a little more tricky. I first measured out the front and back triangles. Then I can use the edges of the front and back triangles to make the side triangles. Basically making the length of the sides equal. I used a pneumatic nibbler to do a rough cut of the triangle, then used the sander to straighten and smooth everything out. Then I used plumping welding putty to hold every thing together. For my first time building a pyramid, and came out pretty damn good.

After getting the pyramids done, I moved onto the task of sanding and polishing the edging. I started out with 100grit and got all the scratches out of the edging. It took awhile since, there is a lot of edging to do. The good thing, I am done with the 100grit.

Polishing - 2/12/2011
Work is going slow with the polishing. It is a slow and tedious process. I managed to get the 1.5”x1.5” and 1.5”x1” edging completed. I still got the 1”x0.5” and 0.5”x0.5” to complete.
Work is going slow since I cannot work too much on the project. The good thing is that I have my first surgery on Feb 21st, which is not too far away.
Here is some pics of my progress so far on the buffering. The first pic is the 1.5”x1.5” edging, and the second pic is the 1.5”x1” edging.

I Smell a Rat - 2/16/2011
I just got this in the mail today. It felt like an eternity for the Mad Catz Cyborg RAT 9 to release onto the market. I finally got my hands on it today. Has a lot of adjustments and weight changes. Even has different pinky rests. The only bummer is that I have to wait 3hours for the battery to charge. After that, I am going to try some games. Here are some pics of this amazing mouse.

From the instructions, the first charge will take 3hours, then after that ~2hours. The good thing there are two batteries, so you never have to worry about a dead battery.

Cyborg Man - 2/22/2011
I suffer from chronic facial pain on both sides of my face. The pain is localized on the cheeks and around the noise. It is the second branch of the trigeminal nerve. The chronic pain was caused by one of the chemos drugs I took during my cancer treatments. It some how caused nerve damage in my face.
The doctors are now using neuro-stimulators to help with chronic nerve pain. The stimulators are commonly used for chronic back pain, but now are expanding out to other parts of the body. I was lucky enough to have the health insurance to approve the stimulator for chronic facial pain.
The surgery I had yesterday is called a trial surgery. Basically only putting the wires into body, while the electronic box is on the outside. The trial is used to make sure the stimulator works, before implanting everything into the body. Here are some pics of the wires coming out of my face.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl2_22_2011/IMG_0420.JPG
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl2_22_2011/IMG_0419.JPG
I can only use the stimulator for a short period of time currently. The doctors want to wait a couple of days for the body to heal. But the good thing is I am seeing some good results for the short time that it is on. Tomorrow I am allowed to run it all day. If the trial is a success, I will have the full surgery in about a month and a half. The bad thing is they have to remove the wires for that month and a half. If it works, it going to be the longest month and a half of my life :)

I have this crazy idea of getting a doctor's note to let me wear a hat with a tiny steam generator everywhere...the affect would be even better if the wires were external..sorta some weird biopunk/steampunk mashup. :D

The draw is very little, and in the micro amp range. I should only have to charge every month, so it is not too much of a problem. Also, I can connect to the device and change parameters, like frequency and duty cycle.

Yeah, waiting definitely sucks, but the good thing is it should be a month instead of a month and a half. Also, it is a good wait, since I know it will fix the pain :)

Trial & Polishing Done - 3/5/2011
The trial surgery for the facial neuro- stimulator was a smashing success. It drop my pain level by ~90%. It was great to have pretty much no pain for 5 days. The sad thing is I have to take out the wires, and wait for about a month for the full surgery. This is were they will install the control unit and battery in my upper right chest along with the wires.
Back to the computer case build. I m glad to say I finished the polishing on all the edging. It was a long process, but will paid off with the bling of nicely polished brass. Here are some pics of all the edging.

After the small pieces was done, I had to do the large piece of brass (36”x24”) that will go on top of the Temple. This was a pain to do, since working with a large piece with a small buffer takes some strong arm work. The good thing is I got it done, and only need to clean off the polishing compound form the piece. Here are some pics of the work.

When polishing the brass pieces, I got some wood pieces painted flat black. This is to neutralize the wood, if some how you could see it through the exterior covering, i.e. painted veneer panels or brass plating/edging. Here are the doors and top painted.

To make the brass holding pieces for the external drives and panel, I had to make some measurements. I got one of the 5970 cards and did some quick measurements to know where I can put things. Now I can order the brass sheets. Also I got a 18” metal brake to help making the brass drive holders.

Yeah, I am looking forward to overclocking the 1100T. Hopefully I can get it stable at 5GHz with the water cooling and bumping up the voltage. Also run the DDR3 at 2133MHz.
The case is going to have a lot of brass bling on it. But it will pay off, with the shiny brass and the electro-edge panels.

Surgery, GFX, & Doors - 4/15/2011
I glad to say that I will have the neuro stimulator surgery on April 25th. I cannot wait for the surgery, and get rid of this chronic facial pain that I had for ~2.5 years now. The whole family is looking forward to the date.
I wanted to note that the domain name “templeoffusion.com” expired, and so how the auto renew from Go Daddy didn't work. I think that had an expired card on file. I got the domain back, but it will take a couple of days before I can get it up and running. For now, please go to www.6bolt.com/temple. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Now lets get to the update on the project. The next step was I had to route out the space in front of the doors. I plan on having a brass piece in front, but it needed to be flush, so the doors wouldn't hit the piece of brass. I got out the router, but only could get about 75% of the space. I had to use a Dremel to get the rest of the space. See pics below.

I am still waiting for the brass to create all the boxes that will hold the drives, I/O panel, and the water controller board. I ordered a lot of custom cut pieces and it took the company awhile to get it all done. Since I don't have a band-saw, it was easier to pay then to do the cutting. The brass pieces finally got sent out, and should be here next Tuesday.
In the mean time, I got the water blocks and back plates put onto the two 5970 GFX cards. I never have done this and was a fun experience to get everything together. The first one went slow, the the second took about ½ the time. Here are some pics of the process.

Ready for Surgery - 4/22/2011
I am so ready for my surgery on April 25th. I cannot wait to be pain free, and get back to normal life, instead of being a shell of myself. I will not update for about 3 weeks while I recover. Also the www.templeoffusion.com is working again.
Before I painted the case all black, I had to get the Blu-Ray player and front I/O panel with power and reset buttons put into the case. I started off by cutting the hole for the Blu-Ray player, then moved onto the I/O panel. After the holes were cut, the I had to cut the holes into the veneer covers. Here are the pics of the process.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl4_22_2011/IMG_0496.JPG
With the Blu-Ray and I/O panel taken care of, I can move on to painting the whole case black. The exterior will be covered with veneer or brass, but in case the wood comes through, it will be black and hidden. Then I am going to keep the inside of the case black, while all the boxes inside will be polished brass. I taped up the radiators, and painted the case. Here are the pics.

I got the last order of brass and sorted out everything. Most of the order will be the boxes I will be making to hold the Blu-Ray, I/O panel, 4 HDD, 2 SDD, and the liquid cooling controller. The other will cover up the front and back of the radiators. Here are some pics of the brass and sorting.

I started making the Blu-Ray box. The first thing was to set-up the brake. In the pics, you will see that I had to clamps holding the brake down. This didn't work and I had to run out to Ace to get some C-clamps. After that, the brake worked great. I moved on to bending and cutting the brass for the Blu-Ray player. Here are the pics.

Excellent work, though I've been under the knife recently and not been as attentive as I should be.
You work for AMD, wasn't it? They wouldn't happen to want to hook me up with 4 SE Optys would they? 4 HE Opties nearly killed me, and I know they get so much faster... Besides, finding non TLB-bugged Barcelonas-pulling teeth (I should know, my last surgery was losing all mine.)
Best of luck to on the surgery, and we'll get to be cyborgs together. My next scheduled one is to rebuild my right eye.

Surgery Scars - 5/1/2011
The surgery went well. The only thing that happen was one of the lead wires slip, so it took another hour of surgery. In total, it was about 3 hours of surgery.
I am glad to say that the stimulator is working. This coming up Wednesday, I go in to get better stimulation programs that will greatly help with the pain. Even with the simple programs, I am seeing great benefit as the swelling goes down.
Here are some of the scars I got during surgery. The had to cut my cheeks, by the ears, and along the neck to route the wires. Then the big scar on the chest/shoulder is where the control unit is. The other old scar on my chest was from the port I had for chemotherapy. I made these links, and not photos, so people don't have to look at the scars.

Next time that I go in, they are going to let me program it myself. It doesn't look to hard watching them. They just hook it up to a HP organizer and program it. Last time, I made them but in a lot of programs. With the new programs, it is working great and taking out ~95% of the pain. It is a great feeling, going from 2 years to pain to pretty much no pain at all.

Back In Business - 5/8/2011
My restrictions from surgery was I couldn't lift 5lbs., but after thinking about it, the boxes that need to be made are less the 5lbs.. Also, I have a lot of energy now with the stimulator. During the 2 years of pain; the pain drains your energy quickly. Then I couldn't sleep well, since I was in so much pain. Now that I have the stimulator, I have a lot more energy. I sleeping better and cannot believe how productive I am during the day.
So I started back working on the case. Mostly I was so bored and awake, I had to work on something. I started off, mounting the Blu-ray player and the I/O panel. It is looking pretty good with the brass boxes.

The next set of boxes that needed to be made are for the four 1TB HDD that I use in RAID10. Going to make 2 boxes, one for each pair of HDD. The first was to connect the two HDD to the liquid cooling block. Then to start marking and cutting the brass. Then the fun part of getting the screw holes to match up. Only going to see one box being made, the second one is exactly like the first.

The next box was for the two SSD that will go into RAID0. This will be the main boot drive for the computer. This box will be a little different. I needed a floor to hold the water block and the two SDD drives. If wasn't too much more work. It is a long, but short box. I have some big o-rings that I am going to use to keep the SDD drives secure to the floor and the water block.

Long Time - 6/5/2011
Sorry it took a long time to get an update; it has been almost a month. I have been enjoying a lot of time with the family. This Sunday morning we all went to the zoo and had a great time. I was amazed I lasted all morning, usually I would have been out after a couple of hours running around at the zoo. Another reason is the side effects from a couple of drugs that I am getting off of. There are not great to deal with, but I am very glad to get off a lot of the medicines I was on.
To get back to the building, I got all the inside boxes done. I got them hung and put into the case. The first pics are with out the tops. You will see everything except the SDD box. I didn't install the bottom and the sides were tape to the top. You will see in the pics with all the boxes with their tops on.

I run into some fitment issue with one of the GFX card and the Blu-Ray player. The easiest solution was to just shorten the Blu-Ray box. I cut the sides down and made a new top. It took some time with cutting, bending and polishing, but no I am glad that I don't have anymore fitment issues. Here is a pic.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl_6_5_2011/IMG_0609.JPG
Next on the list was getting the back veneer panels cut for the back of the motherboard and for the two PSUs. This the last of the major panels to be cut. The last ones are for the top of the temple, which you will see later.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl_6_5_2011/IMG_0610.JPG
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl_6_5_2011/IMG_0611.JPG
After the back veneer panels were cut out, I started working on getting the pieces together for the top. I did one side to see how it will look, and it looks good. I will have a small strip of brass covering there intersection on the two veneer panels.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl_6_5_2011/IMG_0612.JPG
The bad news the top brass piece for the top, was a little too big. I sanded down two edges, but made a lot of scratches onto the big piece of brass. To keep quality high, I decided to re-sand the piece and polish it. This was a pain and took up a lot of time, but I am glad that I will not skimp on quality. I didn't take any pictures, since I was not too happy I had to re-sand it, and I was getting really tired. Also, I painted the motherboard tray all black. It will look good will all the black water cooling blocks. Also got the SDD bottom put in.
The Temple and I have come a long ways. I am very glad I am at the stage of putting all the pieces together. I was glad to start gluing the pieces to the top and putting on all the polished edging. Pretty soon I will be installing the pumps and the PSUs in the bottom of the Temple, then the MB tray, and then the computer. I am getting very anxious to finished the project. But the best part was when my 3 year old daughter came to see the project in the garage. I started putting the brass and veneer on the Temple for her. Then got the doors, pyramids and the two reservoirs. See was amazed at the site. It made me one proud Pap-pa :)

Outside Decor - 6/19/2011
With the boxes made for the inside, I can finally start putting some of the outside brass and veneer panels onto the case. I started with the top. First was gluing the big piece of brass on top. It took a lot of glue, then I used a lot of liquid containers to hold it down. After that was finished, I put on the top and bottom edging with the veneer panels. Here are some pictures.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl6_19_2011/IMG_0619.JPG
The top turned out great, and I think it has doubled in weight with all the brass. I still have work to do on the top to get it all nice and shiny. I got a lot of fine grain sandpaper to make the job easier. After the top, I moved onto putting the Temple veneer panels onto the Temple. I started with the back, then the sides. Here are some pictures.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl6_19_2011/IMG_0623.JPG
Before I could put on the front veneers, I had to install the doors. I glued the front and back brass pieces onto the doors. I found the one of the brass pieces was to long and was catching on the inside wood frame. I sanded it down and the problem was solved. The doors look pretty sweet.

The last pieces that I am going to glue on, before starting the computer, are the side of the obelisks. These are the long pieces of brass that I electro-edge images and hieroglyphics onto the front. It really makes the obelisks stand out when looking at the case from the side. Here are some pictures.

For Father's day, my wife got me a nice present. She got me an A/C unit to cool down my external garage/work area. It is nice, and keeps the temps down in the garage, so that I am not sweating all the time. Also I insulated the garage and that really helps keeping the cooled air inside. Now I am ready for a good summer, were I can finally work at a nice temp. Here is a pic of the A/C unit.

I ran into one problem though. One of the pieces for the top edging is too short. I don't remember having the problem, but I couldn't glue on the top edging for the Temple. The good thing is I can order a cut piece of edging, and have it here by next week. But I decided, that I am going to start building the computer next week. Installing the PSUs, pumps, motherboard, and so on. Once the computer is finished, then I will finish up the edging and the final polishing.
To see what the case is going to look like, I set-up multiple things on the case. It is not complete, but the computer case looks great. I cannot wait until it is done, and I can start using it. Here are some pics of what I saw.

Custom = Nothing Fits - 6/28/2011
The problem with building a custom from scratch case for the first time is that you will make a lot of mistakes. It seems nothing fits, one thing is too long, while anther is too short. This what happen most of the weekend when building the computer part. I thought it would only take an hour or two to start plumping all the lines. Boy I was wrong, and only got the tubing in the base done. But the good part is, the tubing in the base is the hardest part of this computer build.
I first started off by putting in the two PSUs. I attached the nickel plate to the two PSUs, the used brass screws to connect the plate to the Temple. The brass screws are not shown in the pictures, but you can tell where the go. I didn't install the pumps, because I am waiting for G3/8 to G/14 converter. Forgot the pumps had larger holes with the Bitspower front.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl6_28_2011/IMG_0639.JPG
Next was installing the two pumps. The first thing I had to do was get it re-wired. The power was on a 4-pin molex, while the RPM was on a 3-pin connector. The control board that I will be using will drive the pump, and it has a 3-pin male as the hook up to the pump. It is cool, the software can read the RPM, and have feedback. Also will be putting flow meters in each loop. As an engineer, you can never have enough data. Here are pictures of the re-wire and the placement of the pumps.

http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl6_28_2011/IMG_0642.JPG
The next thing I had to do was get the reservoirs mounted. When using the brackets, it pushed out the reservoirs too much. There was a simply fix was to cut down the mounts. This worked out great. So I drilled the holes, and the screws were to short because off the Temple's wall. I had to run to Ace to get some longer machine screws. Here are some pictures of the process.

After that ordeal, I started plumping the tubes for the radiators, reservoirs, and the pumps. I pre-cut holes in the bottom base so I could hook up the radiators and reservoirs. However the end up being to small. I didn't want to cut first and tried to route the first tube: radiator → reservoir. I tried about 2 frustrating hours trying to get the compression fitting screwed into the radiator. I needed a break and would have some time on Sunday to work on the case again. I got some sleep and the next day the first thing I did was cut bigger bottom holes in the base. I did it with a jigsaw, but the blade was too long and hitting the top of the base, so I snapped the blade to make it shorter and it worked wonderful. I got the first route done, and moved onto the reservoirs. This was going to be tricky, since the reservoir covers the hole were the tubes are connected to it. The top hole is pretty small, but the hole on the bottom was big to help move the fittings around. It took some tries, and scraping off some dirt paint, but I got the two 90degree fittings hooked up to the reservoir and got the fittings into the base. The bad thing is I had to remove the bottom mount to get fit into the hole. I ended up breaking the mount trying to but it back on, but it was the best thing. I just used super glue on the edges, then placed the mount with the screw inside, then waited a couple of minutes, and it was good a new. Since the mount is behind the reservoir, no one can see were it cracked.
Now I moved on to the right side and ran into another problem. The radiator was sitting too high, and I couldn't get the fitting connected to the radiator, because the fittings was hitting the top of the base. So I cut the top piece in two places, so the fittings could fit (can be seen in the pic below). Since the area was small, I couldn't use a jigsaw and had to use the dremel, which took some time. The fans will hide the cut outs, and the fitting don't hit the fan, because of the ½ off wood I cut out. After that, it was smooth sailing, and I got all the connections that run through the base done. This are the hardest routes. Here are some pictures of my odyssey.

In the last shot, you will see Bitspower multi-PSU board. Easy way to hook up two PSUs. Also, the two silver things at the end of the two tubes are temp sensors.
After I got the bottom plumping done, it was too late to work on anything else. So I am looking forward to next weekend to get the computer finished. And I am glad it is a three day weekend because of the holiday. On a bad note, it might take some time to get another update done. I got to take some piece out of my current rig, to make the computer in the Temple. Hopefully I will get it done in a week or two, and can show off some finished shots, after I get it clean, polished, and the paint touched up.

Sorry, it has been a long time that I have had an update. But I have some bad news about my health. I thought I was going to finally get better, but it seems there are some more underlining issues. I am not going into much detail, but it has delayed the build for a little bit. The sad thing is that I am almost done. Just need to install the brass boxes, finish up the tubes, and finish up the edging, plating, and painting.
Hopefully I should get the project done soon. When I feel better, I will definitely try to finish the project. This is pretty much a guarantee, since I had to take down my main computer, and want it back.

Quick Update – 8/18/2011
Currently I am still suffering from a medical condition, but was able to do some small work on the computer. I want to get it done, since it is my main computer. The medical condition is not the chronic nerve pain, but something else. The doctors want me to get off medicine and wait to see what happens. It could be multiple things, but time will tell.
First I got the pumps in a new position. The original position was angled, which didn’t work. Now they are facing straight, compared to the walls. After that, I started getting the fans on the radiators. Since the controller controls 6 fans, I tied the top 2 fans together. Once all the fans were in, I connected extensions to the wires. Here are some pics.

The next thing I started working on the motherboard and GFX cards. I installed all the water blocks onto the mother board. Plus I install the motherboard with the GFX cards to see if I had any fitment problems. It turned out that the Blu-Ray box will hit the farthest GFX card. So I just made the box a little smaller to solve the problem.

I started to install the edging on top of the Temple, but there was a very high spot on one of the sides. Also there was a high spot on when of the obelisk. I had to sand the high spots out, the re-paint it black. Here is a pic.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl8_18_2011/IMG_0669.JPG
I got the top all done. I had some big scratches in it, so I had to redo the polishing. It was a pain, but it is definitely worth it. Here is a pic.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl8_18_2011/IMG_0674.JPG
Here is all the metal I still have to install. I got the top and bottom edging for the Temple, cover plates for the front of the obelisk, edging for the obelisk, Blu-Ray, I/O controls, and the back panel. Too much metal, but I will get it done.
http://www.6bolt.com/temple/worklog/wl8_18_2011/IMG_0670.JPG
I am slowly making progress and hopefully get it done soon. Still got a lot of metal work and polishing to do, But I am glad that I have something to keep me busy, even though I cannot work so much.
Looking good.

Thanks. For the thermal paste I follow the directions from EK Water Blocks. It said put it into a star pattern. But I should have made the the paste in smaller traces.

Almost Done – 9/3/2011
I got most of the metal cleaned up and placed onto the Temple of Fusion. I still got to clean the obelisks and door brass. After I got 95% of the brass put on I started to hook up the computer. I got the majority of the water tubing, but ran out. I should get some more tomorrow in the mail. Then I worked hooking up the wires. I got most of the power hook-up except for the MB. The only signal connections I have left is getting the regular HDD connect to the MB and some temp sensors. The 90degree SATA2 cables didn't work, so have some straight ones coming tomorrow too. I also added in noise reducing padding to the HDD, Blu-Ray players, and to the walls of the lower part of the Temple, where the pumps are. Hopefully this will keep the noise down a little. Here are some pics of the process.

I should be done really soon. Have to touch up the paint for the veneers. Place the brass edging to cover up the sides of the Temple, doors, Blu-Ray, and the side I/O panel. Then finish connecting the tubing and wires, and I should be able to add water and test out the connections. Then just load Win7 and the games, and time to start overclocking. Well, I got to get the computer room set-up down stairs and set-up the new power lines for the Temple of Fusion.
Wow, dude...that is seriously impressive.

Thanks guys.
I am still not done with the computer. I am putting in the water into the first loop. I had to do some debugging since it was not filling up. I found out I had a hole, and was sucking in air. Now that I now what was the problem, it will be easy to fix. I hope that I don't run into any more problems.

Sorry for going dark for awhile. My health turned south and was not doing well. I had to take another leave of absence from work again. But there is a silver lining to this dark cloud. By chance, I found a drug that turn everything around. Also it took care of the pain. The doctors are still trying to figure things out, but a least we have a major clue on what is happening to my health.
Now that I am feeling a little better, I finally got the computer up and running with the water cooling. It took about 13-14 tries to get everything working. Murphy, I hate your damn law. About half of the tries were my fault, but the other half was due other problems I had no control over with. In the end, I found a nice way to get all the air out of the system and the computer is working great, excepted for one of the 1TB drives is dieing. Also I have to get a 90 degree USB cable for the liquid cooled controller, so I can put on the brass cover.

You can tell from the pic, I took a lot of the brass off. It was getting scratched up and dirty. While I wait for a new HDD and USB cable, going to clean up all the brass. I have the top in the garage. The brass is all re-polished, and just need to but it back on. Hopefully I should have everything done in a couple of weeks.

Quick Update: 12/18/2011
One of the 5970 cards had a fault or short in it. It blew out the motherboard, which sucks. I had to tear everything down again. I got a new 5970 card, and luckly found the same model of my Gigabyte 790fx motherboard. The board allows the SB to be water cooled, while having two 5970 cards. Also I got the two new 20A 120V circuit wired up. Plus ran a CAT5e cable from the router/switch for fast internet. There is nothing better then wired internet for a desktop.
Hopefully I will get some pics up soon.

Slowly Making Progress - 2/24/2012
Sorry for taking a long time for the update. My medical conditions are taking a large toll on me. The pain has been significantly been reduced, but still is a problem with the stimulator. However, chronic fatigue has been a major problem. With the stimulator, I was able to get off the pain meds, but the fatigue was still there. Originally we (doctors & I) thought the fatigue was a side affect from the large amounts of pain killers I was on. But getting off the pain killers, the fatigue got worse. The doctors do not know what it is, but guessing it is fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome. Because of the fatigue was so bad, I couldn't return to work. With no return date to go back to work and being on medical leave for so long, I finally had to go onto total disability. I have filed for social security disability and got another year through my long term disability insurance. The good thing is that if I get social security disability, the the long term disability will cover me until I am 65 years old. So I am extremely happy with my coverage. It has been very hard on me, especially giving up my job at AMD. I really loved my career and will miss it greatly.
Anyways, lets get to the update on the case. With the fatigue, it has greatly reduced my work on the case. But the good news, I have the computer running with all the water cooling. In the last update, one of my 5970 cards died, so I got another one off the internet. The bad thing was it was defective, and I had to deal with returning the card through eBay. The eBay seller dragged his feet every chance he got, and it took almost 2 months before I got my money back. Then I bought another second card again, and it has been working great.
I have been doing some overclocking of the CPU, GPUs and memory with some good success. The CPU never gets above 35C and the GPUs never get over 40C. So I have really been happy with the overclocking. Also games look amazing with the two 5970 cards.
The bad thing is that the brass has tarnished a lot during the multiple computer tare downs and re-builds. I finally took all the brass pieces off to clean them and re-polish them. Currently I am almost done cleaning all the brass. Then can move on to the re-polish, which is much faster. Also, I got the top done, but need to re-assemble it.
Here are some pics of the computer in its current state. You can see the computer with all its brass. I had to cut some of the peripheral tops to make them fit. Also, you can see the case with all the outside brass taken off. Looks bare, but it should look awesome again with all the shiny brass.
