Didn't want to deal with sending a laptop across the country, have to deal with shipping costs, breakage, etc, so I put the G3 700Mhz 256MB 14" iBook that's been lying around on CL.
What I had been seeing on eBay for them was ~$75-80, so I figured $65 local pickup would be a decent deal for someone and I'd get about what I'd get if going through eBay/Paypal/shipping.
Sell it to a guy and within minutes it is up on Craigslist for $180, though he did put a wireless card in it.
I'm all for someone trying to flip it and make a buck, I just found it funny that it happened so quickly. I got my money so I'm happy. I wonder if he'll be one of the ones posting it over and over for a year, lol.
So much for his "daughter will love it so much". Hehe.

Why didn't you list it on the forums? (aside from the shipping reason)

How old was it? With those specs I don't believe he'll ever get 180 for it...unless he misrepresents it or sells it to someone that unquestioningly buys anything with an apple on it.

No reason other than shipping. Between paypal fees, waiting in line for an hour at the cities post office, time spent packing it all up, etc. just figured CL would be easier. Have someone come here, give cash, and go.
I didn't care about the money. It has been lying around and we were reorganizing the apartment so I just wanted it gone.
It's none of my business what he does with it, I just found it funny how people lie. It's not like I would have jacked the price or refused to sell it to the guy if he was like, "Ya, I plan on trying to flip it, make a few bucks". All for it, just take it off my hands.

You'd be surprised how many of them think the clock speed of the processor is the only contributing factor to how good a computer is. and the apple logo just seals the deal that its a 1337 computer
Just say 2.8Ghz processor, 2048MB ram and people think its a good computer.
to bad its a 2.8Ghz Celeron 4 series, 2048MB DDR-266
side note, those G3 towers look uber bad a@# with some LED strip lighting inside to make the plastic glow.

I had originally gotten it for free, but wiki says that model came out in November of 2002.
My original posting:
Received a 700Mhz iBook w/256MB ram. Does not have an airport card. Has battery and charger. Seems to be working but do not know much about its history, so selling as is. Powers up, screen looks good.
Cash only in Framingham.
Thanks. Shoot me an email. If you've got PC components don't be afraid to offer trades.
His new posting:

I knew when he was in a rush and kept asking me if $65 was the real price what he was going to do with it. I almost wanted to laugh when he said his daughter would love it before he ran off.

Maybe his daughter and she was like... ewww, G-3uuhh.
Out of curiousity... how does 700mhz compare on a mac to a PC? I'm looking at the 12" models and you can pick 'em up for around 100 bucks. Seems like they'd be cool to play with but only if they're usable. Can you watch hd movies and all that jazz on them?

I honestly have no clue about the older Mac computers. I never used it. Wiped it with reinstall, and that was it.
He asked me if it had a working DVD player, so I tossed a dvd in and it played that. HD content, I doubt it, at least not very well and would have to be low bit rate I would think.

I own an 800 MHz G4 iBook (the version directly after this one), and it's really friggin slow.
There is no way in hell you'll be able to watch HD movies (I think the thing only has a 32 MB Radeon 9200).
They are very nice looking and well built machines though. Mine still looks new, even though I got it in late 2003/early 2004.

I read Craigslist for all the funnies. Check out the personals, I often find people I know.

Reminds me of when I got my iMac G4. I found a bunch of dissasembled G4 iMacs in my school's salvage pile, I was first and got the only complete one. But I later found another one in pieces someone was trying to sell on craigslist for >$100. Total rip, as I know the guy found it for free. Also all the other iMacs I saw had cut cables and such, to fix one of them would be more effort than it's worth.
