Just wondering how acrylic is with generating static electricity since I'll have it in contact with some of the components in my pc in the case I'm building. I might ground all of it just to be sure though.

Never see it happen. And I've had acrylic cases before.

I chalk it up to urban legend.

I've never had a problem with it, though I *HAVE* had issues with sheets of lexan generating static when they are in contact with each other, and you move them around. IE: stack two, and slide one off... *ZAP*

OK, thanks. Will skip grounding the plastic with a separate wire. It will be kinda grounded anyways though since it's all in contact with the PSU some way or another.

I've always heard using fiber washers with an acrylic case kills the static electricity.

I've always heard using fiber washers with an acrylic case kills the static electricity.

Inserting an insulator isn't going to help the issue (assuming fiber washers are insulators).

Honestly, after the case has been built, I would not worry about it. It is friction with certain materials that can cause some charge build up. Typically this is not too much, and in a normal environment (not too dry), this charge is dissipated naturally, at a safe rate.

Also, its very easy to see if a charge has built up on the case, every hair and dust particle in your room will try to cling to it. AFAIK, there isn't an easy way to remove this charge (you built up a charge on the surface of a dielectric), though I'd try spraying water on it (when the components are out of the case).

Couldn't I just wire the sink to the case? ^^

Would spray-on antistatic products help?
