I just ordered a new headphone jack because i ripped the ribbon cable that connects it, the connecter looks like this

http://guide-images.ifixit.net/igi/sORlyIQxhZrjw2rB.medium

and this is the new one

http://cgi.ebay.com/iPod-Touch-1st-Gen-1G-head-phone-audio-jack-replacement-/110477573914?pt=PDA_Accessories#ht_2999wt_902

How do i A) get the old one off without damaging the ipod, and B) put the new one on. (i assume its just a simple de-sodering followed by soddering the new one on to it. but the ribbon cable is so thin that i dont know how to handle it.) Thanks to the more experienced modders out there who are willing to lend a hand!

the 1g ipod touch as far as I know has the headphone soldered directly onto the mainboard and thus requires replacing of the mainboard.

when you open the ipod you can see the solder points. melt them and pull the old jack off, then put the replacement jack in and hold the iron down till it melts back in place.
