Well, in approximately 2 hours, I am going in to get three wisdom teeth extracted, two of which are impacted. I know everything is going to be fine, but I hate the idea of someone going into my mouth, cutting into my gums, and removing teeth. Ive been told by the dentist that the second day is actually the worst, and I will be in pain for about a week, and during that time I will be pretty limited to what I can eat. I plan on coming home and just watching shows on Hulu and im guessing sleep. I have vicodin and extra strength ibuprofen, but I have never used either. Hopefully is not as bad as my dentists and epsicially my parents make it out to be.

See you guys on the other side :D

I slept it off, the pain pills on an empty stomach just made me want to gag and thats when i could get them swallowed. I did have one of those ice wraps though that was the best and what got me through it.

yea just make sure you take care of them with the warm salt water rinse with the little syringe they give you, the last thing you want is dry sockets afterwards. I had all 4 of mine taken out about ~8 years ago. It does hurt the day after as the novacaine wears off. The day of though don't bother trying to drink anything, your mouth will be so numb u won't feel it and it'll run out all over the place lol

lol... i shook it off after about 6 hours, (i think the anesthetic did more damage than the tooth removal) and i was eating pizza and normal foods on the second day.... If you can convince one of your friends to tape you as you come out of the anesthesia, that way you can get a good laugh out of it later. But i just thought i'd let you know its not always terrible. don't get me wrong, i was still tired and a little weak for a few days, and i had my step dad throw me up against the wall and i couldn't do a thing to stop him, but i didnt take anything more than the ibuprofen. and it worked out pretty well for me.

when i came out of the local anesthesia the nurse asked me if i could move from the chair to the wheel chair i said yes and stood up and proceeded to fall straight at this 60 yr old woman who looked to be all of ninety pounds that caught me dead weight and put me in the wheel chair.. if I hadn't been so doped up i probably would have applauded.

Well, I guess you're under the knife right now, but good luck anyways. :D

The experience seems to vary hugely from person to person. I had mine done a couple years ago (thankfully no impacted ones), and once I got home and slept off the anesthetic I was fine. Heck, I had steak for dinner the next day. :P For me, the scariest part of it was actually what happened between the procedure and waking up at home. Apparently I walked out of the operating room fine, signed out and everything, then offered to drive home (thankfully my dad was with me and he didn't let me) and promptly fell down the steps going out of the building. I say 'apparently' because the only thing I remember from going under to waking up at home is once I got home taking one of the painkillers (vicoprofin), then passing out on the couch...I don't like it when I have absolutely no memory of things that I did..one of the reasons I don't like getting drunk.

Anyways, good luck and I hope you're not miserable for a long time.

I had mine out several years ago as well. I was so high on gas that I laughed at the sound of them crushing the teeth with pliers before extracting them. To this day I can remember the sound and it makes me shudder. NO2 and Novocain injection are all I got...no painkillers or anything for after. I didn't end up needing them anyway. I remember laughing at really stupid things and the doc confirmed that I was ready, then I blacked out, then I remember 2 nurses and my mom trying to support me on the way out to the car (as my legs either didn't work or I forgot how to use them) and then I blacked out for about 8 hours. I woke up on my parents' couch later that night. I used a saltwater rinse for a couple days and just chewed food towards the front of my mouth and it was healed up in a few days. I'd do it again. 5 stars!

lol. Let's hope not. :P

The weird thing with mine was that I had plenty of room and they had grown properly and everything, but all four had huge cavities. I had never had a cavity before in my life, and I haven't had one since, but suddenly all four of my wisdom teeth..gone.

Good news! That Vicodin has always worked well for me but I have GOT to have food in my stomach when I take it. Not real easy given your situation but consider yourself warned.

They tell me herion works well also. You're still in pain but you just don't care.

(I'm kidding.)

Fun fun. They're taking all my teeth. At least I'll be sedated.

I got put under in a hospital and they removed all 4 of mine in one go. Then spent the next 3-4 days watching band of brothers & generation kill, eatting jello and popping pain killers. Was pretty awesome.
