Retailers do that on purpose. When they have an item in stock, but for whatever reason they are not yet allowed to sell it, they price it extremely high. That way there's no chance of someone actually ordering one. When I worked at Office Depot, new laptops with the 1st release of Windows 7 came out and were priced for $10K, because then no one would accidently try to sell one before the launch date.

Interesting. I did notice that the stick in question is a half-height, 4GB, DDR3 stick, which I haven't seen anywhere before.
