That sucks!!! I am so sorry to hear that. I hope she recovers quickly.. as for the DD.. I hope they throw the book at him. I get so tired of hearing stories like this when it is completely avoidable. Some peoples level of selfishness is unfathomable.

I hope everything is ok with you gf. I think all over the world the laws when it comes to drunk driving really need to be tightened down on.

You said it happened in the morning? Did he just finish drinking?

He'll probably end up being a repeat offender. If we locked him in a room with a bunch of guys intent on giving him the same wounds as she received, he would hopefully stop being a drunk loser.

Good to hear she's stable, 6 ribs is a lot of ribs to break.

About the drunk, some people are just so selfish and stupid I can't even fathom it.

Unfortunately with our judicial system unless your gf belongs to a high profile family or it is like his 3rd offense he will get a slap on the wrist, but maybe you should plant some marijuana on him because there are people in jail that couldnt afford a lawyer that are doing 10 year terms over possession, while drunk drivers get 18 month suspended sentences.

sorry to hear all this, i would say at least they caught him, but from the sounds of it nothing major is going to happen to him.

good luck with everything!

Unfortunately with our judicial system ...

Did you move to Canada? ;)

I am not sure how the Canadian courts are handling these cases. It's true here in the US that there are a lot of DD that get off way too easy. I can understand the whole first offense, but when there is property damage and bodily injury involved, I believe the leniency levels should drop drastically.

Most judicial systems this side of the Atlantic are extremely lenient on drunk drivers. You get caught once in most parts of the UK your license is done and you don't drive anymore. At least that's how it used to be I don't know if they have become more lax on it.

In Australia if someone did that they would go to Jail for a fair amount of time and wouldn't be able to drive for yearssssssss..

I am glad your GF is on the mend.

Ouch, mixed blessing there. I hope they can clear them out quickly since they caught them early.

yeah... i dunno about canada, but the drinking laws in the US are total BS and a slap on the wrist...

how are things moving along? i take it the cancer can be cut out or easily treated from the sounds of it?

I haven't been on here in awhile. This is the first I've read about your gf's accident. It's horrible that she was injured so badly, but catching cancer early is the best time to catch it. She'll be in my prayers. Also, I hope that drunk driver gets prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law in your area.

Does he seem like a poor man? Make him bankrupt. Usually the judicial system, as what other people have said, slaps people on the wrist for first time offenses, no matter how much the damage was. It's the civilian courts that really kick him in the nuts.

Is it even the guy's first offense? If it's not, he should be facing heavier penalties.
