The Asus models are both good, which one depending on how much GPU power you need. Personally though, I would go with a Thinkpad T410 or T510 (http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087&current-category-id=19C791A03AF24034A0011B825513BCED), or if it fits in your budget, an X201 (http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/systemconfig.runtime.workflow:LoadRuntimeTree?sb=: 00000025:000029B8:&smid=4F2AFFFF52964FE2BCF0CC608A649A77). I have an X200, the 'tick' the the X201's 'tock', and I love it. You can upgrade the X201 to an i7-620M and 8GB of RAM and with the smallest battery it only weighs 2.89lbs.

EDIT:
Sorry, I forgot about HDMI.. The X201 unfortunately only has VGA out (without the docking station), but the T410 and T510 both have Displayport as well, which can power an HDMI display with an adapter.

I have the Asus G73J and love it. Will do everything you want, but it is not small. 17" screen.

Mmm, yes. Yes they are! My work bought it for me to run some design apps on. Little did they know I am now claiming it to play some games...

Hi, I am looking to buy a laptop. It's primary use will be for browsing the net and doing office type work. I want it to have around about 300GB and a fairly decent graphics card incase I do want to do some gaming on it but this is certainly not essential.
