alright I just picked up a Samsung syncmaster 226bw from Nightrainsrt4. I can't set it to it's optimum resolution (1680x1050). all I have for choices are 1440x900 or 1600x1200. I got the latest drivers from Samsung's site but it didn't help. anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried updating your graphics driver too?

what cable are you using? If its non digital you might have to click "show resolutions not revealed by this monitor"

I'm using a VGA cable, not a DVI. if I open CCC, go to properties, then configure, under "monitor attributes" I can uncheck the box next to "Use Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) or driver defaults" then I can select the proper resolution and refresh rate. I click "apply" then a box comes up and says "applying changes" then CCC goes back to the main screen and doesn't actually change the resolution lol :?

ok for some reason when I uncheck the EDID box and hit apply, it says applying settings then it pops back up with it checked again! GRRRRR

alright so uninstalling CCC didn't help at all. Neither did upgrading to the latest 10.8 (8/25/10). I did find this (http://www.overclock.net/faqs/47971-how-set-whatever-res-i-want.html) though. anyone think it'll work?

alright so I upgraded CCC from 10.7 to 10.8, no go. uninstalled completely, rebooted, reinstalled 10.8, and was able to uncheck the EDID box and set it to 1680x1050. grrr what a hassle! ah well, all better now :D

I've read about this issue a lot with these 16:10 monitors, it's got something to do with the EDID not be flashed right @ the factory, so the monitor won't tell the computer the proper resolution it can display..
Microsoft has a whole article on changing the .inf file for the monitor driver to change the resolutions, or to make a new one altogether, but that was a little out of my league lol

and another thing I just found out...apparently the crossfire bridge can only go one one way? I had it on, but CCC wouldn't enable crossfire, it said the bridge had to be connected properly. I shut down, swapped the connector around, rebooted, and all is good :?

Sorry about the trouble again. I had a working pair of digital and analog drivers for that screen before I lost data off a hdd.
Had the same issue on my desktop, but worked fine out of the box on my M11x. I just googled "226bw digital driver" or analog in the other case.
