I'd like to turn a pair of these

Into a pair of these

Actually, a guy from work already did this. I saw them at a staff barbecue function and decided to rip the idea off.

I've never done any real model building, nor any figurine-scale painting. I've read up a bit.

My big question is how do I affix plastic or metal parts onto the glass? My attempt to metal plate the first pair of shakers broke the glass (I had planned to solder onto the metal). Any ideas?

Second question, about the painting. I'd like to make them look slightly rusty and tarnished. Obviously real corrosion would be toxic and would need to be sealed. I've heard of "antiquing" products that can age metal surfaces ... or would it just be simpler to use rust-coloured paints?

[Edit: note that I'd like to use them as S&P shakers, so they can't be toxic and would ideally be washable.]

First, what are those things?

Most super glues will affix anything to anything else. Make sure to get it in an easy-applicator bottle as it makes things so much easier.

You can get specialty paints that simulate rust, but if you have a spray gun, you can simulate it yourself.

First, what are those things?

Dalek. Very evil and emotionless creatures from the UK scifi show Doctor Who.
The wife hates the voices. Kinda sounds like some trying to talk in a fake voicebox voice while talking through a voice box. If that sounds correct.

:eek:Someone doesn't get enough Doctor Who:eek:
And before anybody asks you can never get enough Doctor Who:twisted:
