Just had a root canal done an hour and a half ago.

Even though all my other teeth are fine, this one had "internal resorption". Apparently they don't know what causes it, but the nerves/pulp starts to eat the tooth from the inside out.

It actually wasn't that bad. My head feels a bit odd from the vibrations and holding my jaw open I assume. And, a good chunk of the side of my face and tongue is numb. But there wasn't any pain, a little feeling of pressure here and there. Have to go back next week as it was too inflamed to put the final filler in I guess.

So I get to eat on the other side of my mouth and eat only soft foods for the next week, yay! (He recommended smoothies. They make me sick, so today I opted for a milkshake, haha).

Anyone else have any experiences with root canals, good or bad?

EDIT: Damn it! I just stabbed myself in the side of the face/lip with the straw as I was looking at the screen. Didn't realize I had done it until I wasn't tasting any shake-y goodness even though I was sucking, haha.

My dad had a root canal on Saturday, and it did not go very well for him. Apparently the normal pain killer they use had basically no effect on him, so they had to give him a large dose of some other medecine. In order to figure out if it was working properly, they had to do something along the lines of poking the tooth and asking if it hurt, until finally it didn't. It is especially strange since he is a pretty small person- 5'7", 145 lbs.

It took 4 shots of painkiller for me, and it BARELY lasted long enough to complete my root canals. I've had 3.. not particularly painful during/after (once the meds kicked in..haha), and if you get a chance, ask to see it during the operation with a mirror. GROSS! Haha

I had three done at the same time a couple of years ago, and it honestly wasn't all that bad, other than the time it took. The crowns they put in place afterward were more trouble than the root canals were.
