Two unrelated things, one actually happened as a result of the other lol.

I've got a pair of 3870x2's in crossfire. I had Catalyst installed, xfire enabled. While playing MW2 I noticed on my 2nd monitor that Riva Tuner said GPU 1 and 2 were working (up to 100% for both) while GPU 3 and 4 were both sitting idle @ 0%. So I downloaded the latest Catalyst (10.9). I uninstalled 10.8, then upon going to install 10.9 it will not install the video drivers. It lets me select everything but.

I've read that uninstalling/reinstalling MS Visual C++ 2005 and 2008 sometimes fixed it, so I did that, and still nothing. I tried going back to older versions of CCC and even install each component separately (rather than the suite) and still no go.

Anyone have any ideas on either?

Uninstall, restart, reinstall.

Windows UAC could be "protecting" the system files it had at startup.

Well I've restarted several times since this all happened, without CCC installed or trying to reinstall, just for giggles I tried it again last night still no go.

I'll try uninstalling the C++ later and restarting, and see what happens

For some reason the CCC setup isn't detecting the video cards, thus not giving the option to install the drivers. Windows still sees them though, as it downloaded it's own drivers for it

Have you tried installing the 'drivers only' package instead of the 'full' package?
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx?type=2.4.1&product=2.4.1.3.5.3.2&lang=us&rev=10.9&ostype=Windows%207%20-%2064-Bit%20Edition
The above link assumes Win 7 x64 is installed as per your system specs.

Also, try uninstalling whatever other bundled software came with the previous package...it seems to be quite a bit these days.
Have you used driver sweeper (http://downloads.guru3d.com/Guru3D---Driver-Sweeper-%28Setup%29-download-1655.html) or a similar tool? CCC setup may be seeing drivers already installed even though they aren't.

ok so now I've got no display driver, sitting at retarded settings lol. CCC won't install the driver, can't install the driver by itself, Windows finds one on windows update but it won't install. HELP!

Windows update gives me code 800F0203, no useful info on it can be found

You probably need to rollback the driver. You might even need to do a repair install to return Windows to the last "working" system state.

I had similar problems a while back: CCC installs the a 2005 C++ Redist which I didn't want (because I already had the 2008 Redist installed). Too bad, if uninstall the 2005 then CCC just will not ever work. Damned annoying, since the 2005 keeps loading updates and patches, bloody obsolete redundant junkcode.

I recommend you uninstall CCC, uninstall the all the updates for 2005 C++ Redist then the Redist itself, restart, let Windows autodetect/configure your "generic VGA display adapter", restart again lol, install CCC, restart, let stupid 2005 Redist update itself, restart yet again because Windows is dumbtarded, and ... finally it oughtta work.

Avoiding restarts invokes the wrath of UAC interference.

didn't work at all. I ended up using system restore to restore it to before I used driversweep to get rid of everything lol

All I wanted CCC for was to load the newest crossfire profiles and see if they finally added MW2 (after a year) to it. I play it and it only uses one of my 3870x2's.

When you run the driver only setup, what does it do or not do? Is it giving an error? Does it run completely to 100% like it's working but not write any files? Does it refuse to run? Is it not detecting your cards?

it's not detecting the cards. all it will install (and CCC as well) is the Catalyst Install Manager. It won't even actually install CCC. I tried going back a few versions of CCC as well and none of them worked. The windows update for the driver just gives me the above error code.

Try chucking in your 7 disk and doing a repair install. If that doesn't work, do you have registry backups?

This is what you get for trying to upgrade your software...lol Lesson learned?:D

meh I think I'll just leave it for now. It works. I may just do a fresh install at some point anyways, who knows lol

Surely you can't game on default graphics drivers?

It sounds like it belongs in the special software archive.

Have you considered the possibility that you have defective hardware somewhere? Or maybe a timing issue from OC? (I know you've probably already covered all the basics, but doesn't hurt to ask.)
