Since the beta is closed and the game is now out I figured I'd start a separate thread for it.

I've been doing pretty well today, but I've noticed once I hit ~1850 points, some rounds I'd lose skill? Does anyone know how the skill system works?

Ranked 47 in the world opening day for most kills.

If I were to take a stab at how it works (I don't know any hard facts, this is all speculation), I would say as you rank up, the points earned from killing lower ranked people diminishes.

Again, these are completely imaginary numbers.
Example:
You have 0 points:
Killing another player with 0 points gives you 50 pts
Killing a player with 50 points = 55 pts
...
Killing a player with X points = (X * %variable) + (50 * %variable2) pts
----------------
You have rank 1850:
Killing a player with 0 points = 1 pt
Killing a player with 50 points = 3 pts
...
Killing a player with X points = (X * %variable) + (50 * %variable2) pts

Using this, that %variable would decrease over time as you gravitate toward some maximum, say 3000.

If you were to use this same formula for every time you die, this would turn into negative points. If a player with 0 points kills you, this could seriously injure your point total.

All speculation, but if I were to design a system like this I might consider doing it in this fashion. BTW, my 'calculations' are by no means mathmatically sound, so try not to pick me apart on this one. :D

Edit - This would mean there is some mean that the formula would dictate everyone is supposed to me aiming for (say 1000).

I came into a round and went 3-6 and lost 77 points. yet no matter how well you play when you're in the 1900 range you only get +10.

Also, take a look at the number 1 guys KDR. How the hell do you get over 4500 kills and less than 450 deaths in like 7 hours of play time or w/e it was. That's ridiculous.... I hope cheats aren't out already.

Don't be surprised if there are cheats. it took less than 2 hours for the first MW2 cheats to come out, maybe someone testing their cheats against punkbuster. And I don't see anything about 4500 kills and 450 deaths :?

The 4500-450 guy is the first place guy on kills.
