What OS? Does it do anything specific when it freezes? Are you doing anything consistently when it restarts (I'm guessing not since you say randomly)?

My first two thoughts are bad RAM or overheating. For RAM, grab a memtest86 disk and let that run for a while. For overheating, have Speedfan (or your preferred temp monitoring utility) run while you use your computer and check it occasionally. If you see temps getting too high on anything (what 'too high' is depends on the component), check the cooling for that part.

it's not over heating and it's not bad ram. i am using windows 7. i did do a memory test and it passes

Try running a linux live-cd for a while. If it still does it then you know it's a hardware problem. If it doesn't, it might be software.

EDIT:
Actually, the PSU is a good point. What PSU do you have running that?

Is the memory getting enough voltage? I assume you already reseated the memory in the sockets. It is a strange problem that you have.

you've also got 2 different types of ram, each ma require a different voltage. and TBH, you don't need 8GB of RAM 4 is more than enough. I've got 6 in mine and I hardly ever exceed 2GB, even with sketchup, photoshop, etc. what gets it the highest actually is MW2, gets it to almost 3, but even then there's over 1GB left. I say take the second 4GB set out (seeing how it's the most likely culprit - you put it in then started having issues) and sell it or save it for your next build
