First of all I would like to ask the mods that if they believe that the title does contain swearing please pm me or post a reply and I will change the title. With that out of the way lets move on.

So this is my second case mod now, the first I will be doing a project log about. I would love any suggestions/comments along the way. I will mostly be posting bigger updates on weekends as that's when I will be working on this thing the most. Without further adieu lets start this thing

To do list:

Disassemble console - done
Disassemble controller - done
Disassemble hard drive - done
Cut side window
Cut window in hard drive
Fill memory card slots in faceplate
Sand everything
Prime everything
Paint console and hard drive
Paint controller
Glue in plexiglass
Reassemble
Happy Times

So this is a little sketch I made up as for the design of the case. I'm still not 100% sure about the color in the middle (right now purple) so if you have any suggestions plz post. Controller will be painted all black (murdered out)

That's right, powered by Asus......wutsup

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1763.jpg

Alright time to disassemble the controller

Gotta take out those seven torx screws in the back
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1785.jpg

Didn't have a security bit torx screwdriver bit I managed to get a flathead to fit in and it worked :D
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1788.jpg

Screws out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1792.jpg

Taking off the back of the shell
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1800.jpg

Some more dirt/dust that looks very tasty
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1801.jpg

Got the bottom plate out, just pulls out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1802.jpg

Finally, managed to fiddle the circuit board out, not as easy as it seams
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1803.jpg

Took out those rubber things holding in the buttons and the buttons just pop outs
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1805.jpg

Now I gotta take out the d pad
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1808.jpg

Gotta unscrew these two screws to get it out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1807.jpg

Popped it out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1809.jpg

Now I took out the RB LB buttons
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1816.jpg

And pried out the sync button
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1818.jpg

Empty shell
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1820.jpg

Now to take out the triggers
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1821.jpg

Careful so the spring doesn't pop out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1822.jpg

Wasn't so lucky with the second one
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1824.jpg

It kinda flew out across my room, luckily I found it lying by my radiator
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1826.jpg

All the parts laid out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1827.jpg

So I don't forget what to do with all that crap
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1830.jpg

Now on to the console
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1833.jpg

Faceplate off, just pull it
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1839.jpg

Had to take these feet things out to reach the clips.....
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1841.jpg

To take out the top and bottom plates
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1842.jpg

Time to press these clips in, kinda a pain
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1843.jpg

This magical screwdriver was the perfect size and got the job done pretty well
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1849.jpg

Console splitting in two
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1845.jpg

Now gotta unclip the clips in the front
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1846.jpg

Bottom's off
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1851.jpg

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1853.jpg

Taking off the eject button
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1852.jpg

Now these torx screws gotta come out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1855.jpg

EZ mode
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1857.jpg

Top coming off
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1859.jpg

Dusty heatsink
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1861.jpg

Now to take off that metal plate on one of the insides of the case so I can cut the window
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1865.jpg

That's where you belong
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1868.jpg

Fan duct (I think that's what it's called) coming out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1872.jpg

All the parts laid out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1882.jpg

Temporary console so I can still play, add me GT: Prelich
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1879.jpg

So that's all for disassembly right now. I'm going to start marking and cutting the window hole tomorrow and I will also take apart the hard drive to get ready to cut. Stay tuned for another update coming soon.

It's a term used when referring to Japanese cars, something I'm into. That;s the title mainly cause I like to say it and couldn't think of anything else

Alright so on to part two

I marked up the window area on the side of the case. As I do not have a dremel and do not want to buy one just for this one mod, I will be using a drill and jigsaw and a lot of sanding
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1894.jpg

Marked where to drill the holes so the corners are round
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1900.jpg

Test holes, got a good technique now as you can see the top hole is the cleanest
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1899.jpg

Going to use 5 drill bits each consecutively largest so the plastic does not crack and peal off
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1903.jpg

First hole drilled
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1901.jpg

All done
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1904.jpg

Now to take apart the hard drive to drill the holes for it's window
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1905.jpg

Tops off
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1909.jpg

Took off the side so.....
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1912.jpg

I can file these down to make space
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1913.jpg

Filed down those stick out thingies
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1924.jpg

All the hard drive parts laid out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1914.jpg

Took off the foe metal sticker
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1918.jpg

Marked up the window area
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1923.jpg

All holes drilled same way as the side of the case
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1925.jpg

one of the holes came out a little weird, hopefully when I go ahead and sand the inside it will smoothen out
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1928.jpg

Hopefully I will start cutting the window tmrw so stay tuned

It means although the modding is solid, the ways of the EDM have not reached the small adolescent brain rofl. Essentially to expand JDM is japanese domestic market, whereas EDM is european domestic market. Unfortunately, JDM usually consists of a bunch of punk kids sub 18 years of age loitering and smoking cigarettes and what have you while us grown up kids loiter just across the parking lot in our volkswagen, audi, and bmws making snide remarks. Not all of them are bad though there is good and bad to all groups. Mod looks clean you might try some JDM bondo magic on your hdd piece if it doesnt sand out.

I see you haven't had a very good experience with real jdm. Those kids you see across the parking lot smoking beside their riced out honda civics is not jdm. And yes I will probable be using some filler on the hdd piece

not a huge fan of mercedes, although opel had some good runners. Back on point though, what type of paint do you plan on using for your case?

I have some krylon lying around at home however I will be picking up some more as they're almost out. Any suggestions??

Krylon fusion would probably be the best and scuff it with some sand paper like you mentioned. Make sure you pay attention to coat drying times my biggest mistake other than sanding on my first mod many many years ago

by drying time do u mean not letting it dry too long or u didnt let it dry enough?

Snowman
10-26-2010, 04:57 PM
I paid absolutely no attention to what the dry times were recommended on the can label and the clear started eating the color.

The best thing to do is read the directions on the can and follow them. There is usually a line that says "recoat before X amount of time or after Y amount of time". If you spray another coat in between those times you might get lucky but most likely not. The other must is if you are going to use a clear over the paint make sure they are compatible.

Alright part 3 now. I spent the last week filing and sanding and have finally finished

Here's the garage where all the cutting went down
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1935.jpg

Got the console clamped down
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1936.jpg

Tool of destruction
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1942.jpg

Really, really rough cut. Blade strayed off because it jumped off the guide
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1937.jpg

Same with the hard drive
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1940.jpg

Time to start sanding. Attacking it with the 80 grit.
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1948.jpg

Making some progress
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1951.jpg

More progress
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1952.jpg

Got to grind of these tabs so I can glue the plexiglass somewhere
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1953.jpg
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1954.jpg

Tool of destruction (Probably overkill but whatever)
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1955.jpg

Sanded down nice and clean
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1957.jpg

Man that took alot of blood, sweat, tears and time (Pic might make it seem curvy but I assure you it is straight)
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1981.jpg

Nice and smooth (Pic might make it seem curvy but I assure you it is straight)
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1991.jpg

Now I'm going to move on to the faceplate

Going to fill in the memory card slots
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1976.jpg

http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1977.jpg

Removing the connect button
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1973.jpg

Just cut the lil tabs down
http://i887.photobucket.com/albums/ac72/prelich/Project%20Log/IMG_1972.jpg
