I just started to go from console to PC for newer games, and im shocked by the difference in the graphics. People who play console get nice graphics, and it looks decent, but im absolutely blown away by how much they miss compared to PC gamers... Its kind of neat. Anyone else experience this feeling?
We have another convert! :D
And to answer your question..yes, definitely. Well, definitely if you have the hardware to run it, but that's the great thing about the PC game market. You can design an engine and game to be able to have stupidly awesome amazing graphics, and then the users just scale it to whatever their hardware can do. Two great examples of this were Doom 3 and Crysis. At release, neither game could be played at max on any (then) current hardware, so as hardware advanced, so did the graphics quality for players. Compare that to consoles, which are stuck with the same hardware for several years...and yeah, there's gonna be a difference. :D

Whilst I totally agree, one does sometimes wonder if it's worth at least twice the cost.
Not that I can really argue that from my perspective - I have several of both..

First off, YES. The graphics are MUCH better, again assuming you have the hardware.
I don't think that alone is worth the cost, especially since with a console you can just buy it take it home and be sure it will work. However, I honestly think the input capabilities of a keyboard and mouse (and software written to accept that input) is worth at least twice the price of a console controller.
Give me 104 keys and however many buttons my mouse has any day!

I think there are good sides and bad sides about both. the ability to just buy a game and KNOW its gonna run on your system without having to check system requirements is nice (as well as the media center capabilities of the next gen systems). I think it is cool to see the software side evolve in console games as the developers get used to the hardware in the system and come up with better and better graphics engines to push the hardware to its limits.
PC games will always be my favorite though, and will always trump console games IMO.

Well, at least for me pc gaming is a hobby, but so is the construction, and the school use factors in, so you take a 500$ laptop +a 250$ console and ur pc is paid for and IMO has more usefulness... I suppose that since I have a desktop, mac, and 360 thAt it's a moot point, but I luuurv keyboard gaming.

the main downside to pc gaming will always be hackers. it's WAY easier to make cheats and hacks for a game on the pc than it is the console

it also is a lot easier for homebrewed mods for games on pc too. some of the best gaming comes from mods I think. :)

That's not always a bad thing.

I like gaming on PC & console. It depends on the game. There's some games that just seem to fit one or the other better. As far as graphics go, PC games tend to be more developed, but with some of the older hack&slash types, the graphics seem poor anyway.

There's never a time I'd rather play on a console but, if it's a racing or sports game, I'll need a 360 controller.

Well, for mindless button-pusher type games that I play just as stress reduction (you know, for when something just needs to die) I like the simplicity of console games. When I want substance, story line, and detailed graphics, then it's time for PC.

For racing games, sports and casual games console I find is the best. Anything else is always much better on PC.
FPS on console I find so frustrating the level of play is no where near pc and I find the controller not accurate enough compared to a mouse.

Isn't the point of consoles just the context they're used in? Even HTPCs can be a pain from the other side of the room - you want to use a computer at a desk. You use a console from your couch.
My friend and I have pretty decent PCs which share screens with our Xboxes - mine on my desk, his in his lounge. In the last year, it's my xbox that has gone unused, and his PC...

my rule of thumb is 3rd person = console, 1st person = PC. (although lately, I have been playing a lot of fps on 360, because my pc needs an upgrade ;) )
