Preferably free and user friendly. It's for the office at work.

What type of webcam is it - I know both Creative and Logitech cams come with (or have in the past) motion activated capture software

I offered to donate a generic ebay cam that has some LEDs on it. I was thinking about switching the LEDs to IR but I don't think it'll be needed.

I found a pretty decent software called "Vitamin D" but it's lacking video options. I also found one called "1 more web cam" that has a ton of options but only records picture clips with the option of converting them to video... problem is it's not freeware so you have a big ugly banner on the pics.

I'd want it to be a click away rather than going through hoops to open and "arm" the software.

I haven't got a response to the offer yet, only curiosity. I explained it'd be free and rather than going through hours of footage, a manager would only have to press a button when leaving the office and press it again when coming back in. If there were clips, they'd only be 10sec-2min?

Try searching for "security lite" or Security Light". Something like that. There was a freeware program for sgi IRIX (unix), that was ported to several other OS's back in the early to mid 90's. It does exactly what you are asking for, with an email option and everything. I used to use it on my sgi Indy to monitor my back yard and house when I was having issues with a psycho neighbor. I remember seeing a windows version, but that would have been windows 95 era... I never had a webcam except on my sgi systems so I never got a chance to try it.

What video options does it lack? It appears to do motion activated video capture.

Ahh, in my experience that is normally the function of the webcam driver sorftware and not the capture software.
