I have started this in another forum. However, I thought I'd share it here.

I bought this case at a local thrift store. PIII 866, 128MB PC100 SDRAM, 20GB HDD. Not bad, but.....

Just look at the size of this thing! I paid $20 for it!
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs150.snc4/36844_1498754315928_1446259447_1278972_6536253_n.j pg

And from the front:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs054.snc4/35047_1498754355929_1446259447_1278973_3444500_n.j pg

Shhhh.... This is how you add things!
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs281.ash1/20859_1498754395930_1446259447_1278974_6627861_n.j pg

Look at that expansion room!
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs148.snc4/36745_1498754435931_1446259447_1278975_3843775_n.j pg
Can anyone say "stealth hot-swap bay"?

And it's so simple to open it, if you know where to look:
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs221.snc3/20859_1498754475932_1446259447_1278976_3875441_n.j pg

Talk about spacious! Don't know what the blue thing is, PCI cooler?
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs201.snc3/20859_1498754515933_1446259447_1278977_1275493_n.j pg

However, it's simple to open. Note this:
http://hphotos-snc3.fbcdn.net/hs201.snc3/20859_1498754555934_1446259447_1278978_2821891_n.j pg

And this.

A special type of screw goes on the front two spots, and a third mounts it.

This is your OS HDD bay, because it's an always-on, needs the ventilation.

One or two screws to remove.

Meh, a bit bland. Might make for OK wire routing, haven't checked for that.

Take a look at local thrift shops; you will find the widest variety of cases there.
AT, ITX, NLX....
Dell, HP, History businesses.......

For those of you with spouses already P/O'ed about all the computer "junk" laying around in every room of the house I strongly suggest treating those thrift shops like an alchoholic treats a bar... Just stay away, it's for your own good...

GF: What the heck do you need a manual for Windows 3.0 for?

Me: But it's only a dollar!

GF: You didn't answer the question... Besides you don't even have Windows 3.0, what the hell you need the manual for it for?

Me: Sure I do

GF: No you don't

Me: Hell yea I do, You dragged me to the Goodwill, I'm gettin this, end of story

GF: What the heck are you doing with a copy of Windows 3.0?

Me: ... Same thing I do with my copies of Windows 1, 2, 3.11, 95, 95 with USB Support, 95 OSR2, 98, 98SE, ME and every version of NT

GF: And that is?

Me: Not a whole hell of alot, but just having them makes me awesomer

GF: Clearly

Me: You're just jealous

GF: What do you think of this vase for our living room

Me: Looks like someone didn't want it anymore for a reason

GF: What's that supposed to mean?

Me: Looks like sh... HEY! LOOK! They have computers!

ex-GF: I'm leaving

The "right" girl would have understood why I had to buy this... :D

Back on topic though, nice little gem you got there, the 3.5" floppy back in the back next to the power supply is pretty awesome, that case has tremendous potential.

I think people will be surprised when I finally do the mod. It's going to be a bit of a throwback sleeper. The case is great by itself. Probably the best looking beige case there ever was, so I don't want to ruin that completely. Beige has moved out of being dated and it's now nostalgic.

Beige has moved out of being dated and it's now nostalgic.

Lol :D there is truth to this though , want a rare colour case & beige is it :) & imagine there might be a generation who haven't seen a beige case before lol :D.

I'm impressed by this older case, it has quite a lot of nice features, something I'm not used to seeing with older cases :) look forward to seeing what you do with this AmEv :) it looks a rare gem of a case tbh, the floppy at the back is a nice idea .

AmEv
02-28-2011, 12:50 PM
That's why I put it there. In the off chance I actually need to use it, but don't want to open the case up.

The main reason I want to paint it is because the front panel is no loger beige, but yellow.

Well, thanks to the generous donations of TGS (http://thebestcasescenario.com/forum/member.php?u=1530) and TBCS (thebestcasescenario.com), this project has been
NECROED!
and had new life into it!

TGS's stuff is here.
It included:
A motherboard
RAM
A processor
A graphics card

The TBCS stuff isn't here. Yet.
It is:
A PSU

Well, I decided to be a bit risky, and use my current 300W PSU with all but my graphics card.

It booted up.

Installed Kubuntu.
Didn't get pix of that; camera was dead :(
Two cores in System Monitor.
Went to BIOS screen.
"Unlock Cores."
4 core goodness! Boo yah!

The holes are for 90MM fans.

I got 80MM fans >_<

Shouldn't be too hard to fix, though.

But, it adds a NICE red glow.

D_Stilgar, I've got my eyes peeled on you....

What are you trying to say? Are you waiting for my mod to come? Spying my ancient work room with the case there?

I have a plan of action and I think I'll make it my sole project for summer. It will be inexpensive and awesome.

Drilled holes in the back fan bracket to adapt for the slightly smaller fans. Installed, snug and tight.
Adds a PERFECT (almost) glow to the case! Better than I had originally hoped!

It's too late tonight for pics, so I'll hit you guys up with them tomorrow. *yawn*
