I now building a filtration unit composed of a giant ventilator and a filter. I was wondering if it would be a good idea to install it in a computer. I will soon add a picture of the ventilator to give you guys an idea of how big it is;)

Yeah, why not. Overall it should help keep temps down b/c lack of cluttering dust. I was thinking about how I could filter my intake without choking airflow but sounds like you figured it out. Can't wait to see it. By the way, when you say giant, what are we talking here? (I can't help from picturing a patient ventilator standing 6 ft tall, 4 ft wide)

Here's some pictures of the ventilator.

The casing will be black inside, white on the exterior and the rotor will be green fluorescent. I tested it yesterday and it's pretty silent.

Holly hell that's things huge. So does your computer sit in the middle of that then? :P

I have no idea how you're going to get that into anything smaller than a server.

But i hope you prove me wrong...good luck! :)

I think he would just mount it as the intake not actually IN the computer but have a hose so that the air is filtered through that then into the intake then out the exhaust... please tell me if im wrong.

oh yeah!!! a heater fan!!! I've converted a few of those to house fans, I hope you've got a GOOD filtration plan becuse those things move like 5000cfm of air (at least that much I've had some that work better than others). It ain't such a bad idea though... I'm a big fan of cool computers, even with water cooling and everything I'd still be inclined to have 9 or more fans on my computer "just in case" :D

perhaps you could try to make something like a bong. the air goes through water to filter it. i immagine that might work out ok. if you dont know how a bong works let me know and i will explain the concept. i think this would be really easy to make too.

Experience reveals itself heh? Maybe I could make a hooka and run independent lines to HDDs, CPU, etc... Uhhh, cool idea, but I doubt it. That would impede airflow way more than just a filter screen.

maybe not if it was forced air like a lil air pump from a fish tank. i think that might fix your restriction issue. acctually i have never used one of those but i helped a firend make one once so i understand how it works.

forcing large amounts of air through water, then onto computer components = fried computer. Moisture would not be a good thing for a computer. Though water filtration systems work wonders on cleaning the air if made correctly, I don't think it would be a good idea for this.

plus the fact that with like 5000cfm you will prolly get some good water splashing and get water in the case...unless you make a water seperating device about the same size as the blower. GL though

Can you add a picture about this water cooling device, is it like a normal computer watercool you guys are talking about?

A) it's not water cooling the idea was for filtration B ) not normal for computers, a bong is used for smoking, though it can be used for tobbaco products it generally is not.

haha, if you think you are all obsessed with cooling, i have (let me see)...

3 120mm's,
5 92mm's,
3 80mm's,
1 70mm,
1 40mm.

13 fans.

I think you are going to have some serious vibration issues.

Good point, didn't even think of that.

He doesn't have to connect it directly to the case, especially since those things are seriously as big as most cases. What he could do is have a "soft" tunnel that connects to the side of a case.

If you want the case to still be mobile at all I might suggest putting the fan and the computer case on a cart type thing, mount the fan on some springs and have some sort of either rubber or flexible plastic tunnel that connect to the side of the case to reduce vibration... I think you'd have to do it anyways because that thing in itself is big to carry, add a computer to the side of it and you've got some serious weight, and bulk!!

Omega, alright, I take my hat off to you, you are winning the most fans contest as of now... but you just wait, I've got a new build on the way looking at using a Lian-Li PC70 case which already gives me 6 80mm fans plus I'll have a 3 120mm fan water cooling setup, and several other fans to move air around motherboard components :P

i was planning on install it in a ''double case'', 2 cases that were joined together. Here's a pic of that unfinished of that big case.

I don't know what to do with this server side pannel, any ideas?
