Apparently its is the first "sequel" in the series, as it picks up directly where oblivion left off. So here's hoping that it will be just as large if not larger than the oblivion map. Hoping it will be full of caves and dungeons to explore too. Either way, I am in for it on launch day!

Ok, I just got home and was able to read the article (blocked at work...says it's a gaming website..bah! :P ). I....wow, I need to..ok, I have a new goal for my computer. I need to get two more Samsung 2343's, replace my current computer with either a Bulldozer or i7 Sandy Bridge, and get one of the next generation of video cards that can push anything known to man, plus about 40% (if Oblivion was any indication), in a triple-head eyefinity (or whatever nVidia calls theirs) config... My deadline is November 10th. ...oh yes, and also save up some PTO... :whistler:

Same... a console is the only reason I'd consider buying a TV, which makes it a far less cost effective solution than a gaming PC, where I'd need a PC of some sort anyway.

Heh...I never finished Oblivion because the game was so buggy it would constantly crash and corrupt my saves. Bethesda is infamous for such nonsense. If they pinky-swear that this game will work correctly I might...MIGHT...play it. I have a full list of games I'll be playing throughout '11 though, so I'll try to fit this in.:)
Yeah...most of BethSoft's games have been pretty buggy for me in one way or another. I had the least problems with Oblivion though, so I'm hoping Skyrim has even less. ...I'll still play it obsessively though, even if it is unstable...heck, Fallout 3 would randomly crash all the time because of my audio drivers, but I still managed to log a ridiculous number of hours in it. :whistler:

While I've noticed bugs in Oblivion, I can honestly say that there's never been anything significant enough to prevent me from continuing as intended. Certainly never a corrupted save.

I avoided the Fallout series. They're cool games and all...but Bethesda needs to learn how to finish a game before they release it. I refuse to pay money for something that I know doesn't work right and possibly never will.

Not even bizarre. Major bugs are well documented in every game they've ever released. I'm glad I borrowed Oblivion from a friend instead of buying it...

I think your rig will easily suffice for Skyrim.
I played Oblivion first couple of times through with a rig with 1GB of RAM, a 6600GT and a mid range single core CPU.
It was still great fun, but when I upgraded my PC in 2008 I went back to it, and it was like a whole new game. Going from minimum settings (5 yard view distance, 60 second loading screens) to fluid playing at maximum (I can see that wolf that's about a mile off and a few pixels on my screen) is just epic.
I don't expect my current rig to handle Skyrim in it's full glory, but I'd like not to be playing on mimimum. Hope you're listening Bethseda :P
I'm hoping they'll release more details later...I would like to not have to spend $400-500 on a new GPU between now and then...maybe just grab yet another GTX260 for tri-SLI. :P

I'm enjoying it as well.
Aside from loading times, I don't think you will notice much difference playing on xbox. Side by side, they do not look very different, aside from PC being higher resolution. PC going from Low to Medium is the only time the textures appear to change, going higher only increases things like foliage count, shadows, post processing, etc. Sitting on the couch on a 720p screen, or sitting up close to a PC screen I don't notice a huge difference, nothing game changing anyway. Both look decent enough. I sat and played for an hour trying to get the mouse to feel right to me; tweaking ini's etc. When I couldn't I just reverted to my xbox controller on the PC anyway. Blasphemy, I know.
I think you will enjoy it on either platform. The leveling is far better than Oblivion and the world is very well crafted.

I ended up getting it last night after work. Stayed up till 6:30 am playing it x_x
Loving it so far. Was a bit surprised that you don't have to choose a class this time around but not to bothered by it.
I'm only at level 2 but combat feels better so far. I spend much less time dieing than I did in Oblivion. I'm loving dual wield. I keep a ranged destruction spell in one hand and my sword in the other.
The entire menu system is much easier to navigate and the changes to the favorites menu were VERY welcome as on the xbox they were a nightmare to get right with the d-pad in Oblivion.
Now if Only I could get the hang of murdering people with out the authorities just "knowing."
Also, FYI: If you walk in to a village and just start slaughtering live stock, everyone will respond negatively. I got excited and killed the first chicken i saw, luckily my save point wasn't to far behind.

I only killed one dragon and found that my fire spell / sword combo wasn't that effective because the dragon could throw fire farther than me. I ended up pulling out the bow. I enjoy that they upgraded the animations for the spells. The flames spell looks spectacular. Much better than Oblivion which was just different colored orbs.
I just remembered, as far as killing animals. I was on top of a tower and saw a bird flying over head so I zapped it with my flames spell. It froze in mid air then started spinning out of control up in to the atmosphere. It was funny.
I also killed a cow (though it was actually a bull -_-) and it put up ZERO fight. It just took it.

Finished the Dark Brotherhood quest line. Now I want to work on the main storyline but I feel like a Dark Brotherhood Listener wouldn't have any interest in saving Skyrim.
Dragons have gotten much easier to slay, I think it's mostly because I play as dark elf and have fire resistance. The frost Dragons seem to ruin my day.
Thus far, I haven't run in to the problem i had with Oblivion. In oblivion I leveled up pretty high doing all the side quests and then once I went back to do the main quests all the enemies were really tough to fight. So far i haven't run in to that.

Key settings are not what they were with Oblivion and I'm constantly pressing the wrong buttons. I guess I can go in there and change them?

I'm also starting to carry too much weight, but I can't find any merchants to sell it too. In Oblivion, all of the stores were clearly marked outside with signs. I don't see any signs in Skyrim.
Leveling up is horrible. The whole star chart thing is really annoying and I can't figure out what I've used and what I should be working on....
Where the hell are the beds? When will I ever be able to sleep? I've been running for 3 days in game and I can't find anywhere to sleep!
The secret room in the game is my next stop. I need to get better bows and arrows.

Yeah, kinda annoying that...but there's always hotkeys.

Heehee, you never played Morrowind, did you? :D
Ah, anyways, on a more serious note, there are signs, they're just not always as blatant as they were in Oblivion. TBH though, I rarely if ever actually buy anything besides houses in TES games, and most merchants have tiny amounts of money anyways, so I usually end up just hording ****.
...so, with that in mind, I present, for your consideration, the x88x guide to managing your inventory in Skyrim.
1) Go to your house in Whiterun.
2) Dump **** in a chest.
3) Repeat as required.

Whatever you do the most, get perks in that. Easy way to figure this out if you can't remember what you used most is to look at the levels you have in various skills. If you have a higher skill level in a particular skill, chances are pretty good you've been doing whatever that skill affects more frequently.

Well, there's one in your house in Whiterun, you can get a room at any of the inns for a small fee, you can go and kill all the bandits/etc in a <insert place with bandits/etc here> and sleep in one of their beds....or you could do my personal favorite... Don't sleep. Seriously, the benefits of actually sleeping in Skyrim are minimal; imo it's just not worth the bother.

For arrows, if you're playing on PC I highly recommend the Arrow Smithing mod. Indispensable for archers. Suddenly makes being an archer an economically viable option. :P

I've dedicated my life to this game lately. I've put in about 60 hours just last week. The main Dragon quest is done, but there are still dragons to fight, which is nice.
I chose a side in the war and that's over
I finished the Mages Guild quests
I finished the Dark Brotherhood quests
I'm only doing the side jobs after finishing the main story for the Thieves Guild
I'm still collecting the priests' masks and raiding ruins to wipe out the Foresworn
I think I'll be running out of things to do soon

Watch this and become super powerful!

I made a Daedric bow with a powerful smithing potion then used the smithing potion again to improve the weapon, then I enchanted it with Fire damage and soul trap. At first, I had tried to use an enchanting potion that was too powerful and it would crash my game to the desktop. My weaker enchantment still gives my bow 1.6 million damage total.
I kill anything with just one arrow, including Dragons!
