Have you ever shot one? It's a competitive sport and a fun recreational activity not to mention home security.

I dont know what it is with those blocks i mean glocks.. yck...

They're one of the most affordable, most proven/reliable pistols on the market, plus they're one of the easiest to get after-market parts for.

My first time shooting a gun I hit a bottle on my second shot from about 50 feet or so. Then we replaced the bottom half of the bottle onto the stump and I hit that on my first try. I'm a natural! I'm also legally blind.

I found that steadily breathing out while smoothly and slightly moving the gun across your target helps quite a bit. I start by aiming right next to my target and then moving across it ever so slightly. It works for me anyways. I think I end up moving or shaking too much if I hold perfectly still.

Somebody drank the kool aid.. almost all the parts that will fit a glock i have seen will also fit my sig, not that I would want them. IMHO glocks aren't really fair priced because most dealers mark them up a lot higher knowing people will buy them even though they are over priced. Anything is affordable if your patient and look for the right deals. My new sig books at just under 700 dollars and through a little crafty trading and sales I only have about 300 in it and i got a bunch of free ammo with it. There are several good pistols in the same price range and just as reliable. There are even cheaper guns that are reliable. Bottom line as long is goes bang everytime my booger hook hits the boom switch thats whats important.

to each his own i guess snowman, though i will say back in the counter strike days i hated glocks. then my buddy showed me the one he got in the mail and i fell in love. so much so i spent 300 for a airsoft version while i waited to get my licence and what not lol.

next handgun will either be another glock (22 or 21) but more likely a 1911 of sorts.

i would show you guys some video/pic's from the range but it won't be for another 2-3 weeks as Canada sucks for gun laws... :(

Meh some people like glocks I personally don't and can't stand most of the gun forums because most people who parade around draped in glock kool aid gear from head to toe praise glock for the very same qualities that most guns in the same price range have. Beretta, Sig, Ruger (I much prefer their wheel guns over semis but thats neither here nor there), and as much as it pains me to say it even kimber makes some good semi autos. And they will jump on you like a hog on slop if you even so much as say there is an equal gun out there.

:P

..ok, this was supposed to just be a joke post about fanboyism, but...this is actually pretty cool. From 1871 to 1993, Iver Johnson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iver_Johnson) was apparently a US bicycle, motorcycle, and firearms manufacturer. ...that is one of the strangest and most awesome combinations I've ever seen. 8D Oh, and here's an interesting tidbit... President William McKinley and Senator Robert Kennedy. (btw, incase you're wondering how I own a gun but had no clue who made it, it was a gift from an Uncle, who in turn got it as a gift from his father..idk if he bought it new or what, there's no date stamp on it that I can find.)

That's all. :D

I considered an xd for a long while but in the end the price point got me.. can't believe i left them out that being said. Iver Johnson was a great manufacturer and many gun companies used to be a lot more diverse, take savage arms for example or if you want to be technical Savage and Steven arms. Started as Stevens tool company, they made some of the best octagon barreled rifles of their time and have now become one of the premier bolt gun makers IMHO.

Yeah, I did some more research after posting that, and I'm pretty impressed by the following out there for them. I tried to find the age of mine (Model X-2, serial somewhere in the 46,000 range, I forget what exactly), but apparently all their manufacturing records were lost...nearest I can figure from various other peoples' serial numbers, it was made some time in the 1940's.

I got to shoot my Ruger GP100 today for the first time. I put 100 .38 special rounds, 50 .38 +P rounds, and 18 .357s. It barely kicks at all with the .38 specials. The .38 specials felt just shooting my dad's .22. The +P and magnum rounds kicked harder and felt about the same. I was a whole lot more accurate with the .38 special rounds. Single action shots were also much tighter than my attempts at double action.

Now I need to buy some cleaning solvent.

To stay on topic of Spawn-Inc's Glock, the Clock .40 is what is used by most law enforcement officers in the US. I do want to eventually get an automatic, but I'm not sure which one I'll get. I'm leaning more towards Sig or Beretta.

I remember at camp with a .22LR i shot 5 round groupings at 50 yards that fit under a quarter consistently (needed 5 groups of 5 for the badge and i got it in my 1st 25 shots)

I read a recent report that alot of state police have converted over to the 357 sig round. If you lived anywhere close I would offer to let you shoot my Sig and I can more than likely get a hold of a beretta as well. I will tell you right now that felt recoil on my sig ( chambered in 40 smith and wes) has felt recoil on par with my 22 pistol.

yup, G22's. i was out one night drinking with my buddies and it was during the whole G20 event so there was lots of cops around. we got a bit lost and started talking to a few cops in the area. Me being a gun nut i started asking him about it what he was carrying. i was asking him what gun it was and what calibre, he had no clue... i later told him it was a Glock 22 .40 S&W, then backed off as i realized it may have come across as me being a danger lol.

I am sure it is not normal but it is something to watch for. I personally am going to go with a barebones rock island and build up. Just my two cents but if your wanting one to shoot like a laser out of the box STI is the way to go and they have lawmans on sale right now if I am not mistaken.

sti is out of my current price range, i would likely grab a springfield arms GI 45 (http://www.frontierfirearms.ca/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=17_22_162&products_id=3184). ideally i want this to cost less then $1000 after everything and a extra mag or 2.

and even then i think my next big purchase for the gun hobby will be a hornady lock and load AP progressive reloader. for 9mm.

haha, once i have a clean reloading record for 5+ years. unfortunately i've had overcharged and undercharged rounds cause issues.

(over charged didn't do anything to my glock other then leave my hands and ego a bit black. the undercharged case in my 45acp got stuck in my barrel and i didn't realize it as the shell ejected and slide operated correctly. next round hit the first and bulged the barrel $100 for a new one)

primers, gun powder and brass have all cost the same so far it's just the bullets that range in price.

primers for small and large pistol run $34 per 1000
brass is free (range pickup) - normally get 10+ reloads from the brass pending the amount of kick
gun powder is usually $23 to $28 pending the brand/type (i have 4 different powders i use) you get about 1000 reloads per pound of powder pending the amount used.

here are the costs per box (50)

-----------|- Cost i pay--|--cheapest i've seen for factory
9mm - | $7.25-----|---$16
38 spl - | $4.25-----|---$19
45acp - | $6.9 ----|---$23
357 mag -| $10 --------|---$28

for 4 boxes of 1 each
$86 vs. $28.40

or for 1000 rds of each,
$1720 vs $568

and that's with the 9mm and 45 using jacketed, if it was all lead and i cast my own, it would drop to basically cost of the primers and powder. +my time

ALL that being said, for most reloading won't save you any much, just allow you to shoot alot more :)

On the bright side my targets, some ammo and some spare factory mags came in today. Still waiting on the other batch of ammo. I lied, purchased a Gen3, not Gen4. Can you believe the 4th generation of the SAME. EXACT. GUN. is illegal? I can... because I live in California. Ridiculous.

I picked it up today and fired 150rds of different ammo. Functioned flawlessly except with the G23 I tend to hit left where the G19 rental I was spot on, making 25 cent holes at 7 yards.
I'll give it maybe a few hundred more rounds before replacing the sights but so far, meh. Kinda of disappointed in the shop for selling me an "older" version for the going retail rate of the new version simply because the newer version isn't on the California roster for whatever stupid reason.

what?! what is their reasoning?

makes no sense. then again for some reason we are not aloud to have more then 10 rounds in any handgun. that would mean 10+ rampages and what not. all that stops the mag from accepting more rounds is a plastic/metal rivet. and as well all know, a criminal would NEVER think of drilling it out........

as for your shooting left, i seem to do that with my semi's. the revolver i am dead on, but semis i can't do so well with. that being said with my 22lr conversion its helped with my accuracy. at least with the .45.

I planned to buy my first handgun ON my 21st but here 2 years later I purchased one a few weeks ahead of my 23rd.
In my opinion it's a good skill to have just for the sake of having it. You never know if you'll decide to go military or law enforcement not to mention for home safety. I'd hate to shoot anything other than a paper target but knowing I can protect myself in my house helps me sleep at night.

Pretty true. I try and look at the bright side, 1 box = 5 mags. Neat numbers is a perk I suppose.

One law I found hilarious:
Glocks have TONS of aftermarket parts... one pretty amazing one is a pistol to rifle conversion. There are
Basic:
http://i39.tinypic.com/209t4cx.gif

Nicer:
http://i39.tinypic.com/350kqhi.jpg

With either of these... (the basic one just slides in... 5 seconds to take on and off) the second you put it on... you now have an illegal short barrel rifle, or in CA terms, an assault rifle and/or SMG. With the more complicated conversion you now have the required barrel length --It's legal except you now need a bullet button for the magazine. After the bullet button... 100% legal. HOWEVER... popping the kit off is now a felony for converting a rifle into a pistol!

Pretty true. I try and look at the bright side, 1 box = 5 mags. Neat numbers is a perk I suppose.

One law I found hilarious:
Glocks have TONS of aftermarket parts... one pretty amazing one is a pistol to rifle conversion. There are

100% legal. HOWEVER... popping the kit off is now a felony for converting a rifle into a pistol!

haha, wow is all i can say. i guess it's true CA is worse then here. we are aloud to have any carbine conversion pretty much, well accept if it turns it into a bullpup style. that's way to much of a baby killer. however if the gun was made as a bullpup it's perfectly legal (well some).

another one is handguns are limited to 10 rds, semi auto center fire rifles are limited to 5. so a company made a handgun with ar style mags. so now it can use 10 rounds. well that mag just happens to fit into standard ar's and is legal :)

I have no gun, I am happier that way. If I got a gun... I'd probably take it apart xD

i take my 1911 apart all the time! no big deal. took me all of 5 minutes to do this,
