I currently only have access to the net via my mobile device. So I'm looking for a bit of help with creating a PC component list, minus the chassis, that focuses primarily on cost effectiveness.

Thanks for your time and effort. I know this is a bit of a time consuming task, so I appreciate it!

Looks like a decent build, you could even go cheaper with the Sempron single core. I build a few of those for locals that just need the cheapest machine they can get and they work real good for web machines.

Don't forget about an operating system if you want to go windows. However if you are just using it to surf the web Linux is good and free.

Didn't see a case in there so this one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147073) is only $25 with free shipping. Also you may want to add a DVD drive in there if you need it. Newegg normally has one for $14~16.

Edit: Forgot to mention you can always search around craigslist for computers. You can almost always find one for $100.

Here's a link that'll work for that wishlist.
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=12555771

A tip for that. If you're like me and can never figure out how to make a public wish list, just make a private one, copy the ID number at the end of the url, go to a public wish list, and replace that ID with yours.

That's a good, solid system that'll work fine for normal, everyday use. Yeah, you can cut another $30 off if you go to a single-core Sempron, but imo it's worth the extra little bit for a dual core, even in a low-budget system.

one word: Ebay

If cost effectiveness is the most important, just buy the stuff second hand. Will take more time but you'll end up paying half the price for equal performance. If you know how to deal that is.

I love newegg, mainly because it's distribution center is only 70 miles away, so I really do get things the next day. But there is a better site out there.

www.pricewatch.com

It will give you the lowest prices, its just a search engine really for computer parts. Sadly however, they have gone into showing clothing, like who cares about clothes?

I enjoy building my own rigs from scratch, so eBay is a no go for the most part. I also want higher quality than general factory production such as what's found in your main PC producers such as Dell, HP, etc. Then there is upgradability.

Otherwise I'd just go to Dell. They have complete systems for around $200-$300. Or eBay for that matter.

Two thirds of the fun is building it yourself. :p

Anyone else want to build a list? There are quite a few options to look through in this price range. Different features and what not. I may be cheap, but I still want the best bang for my buck. ;)

Do you have a budget in mind or are you just wanting to get the best bang for the buck? Do you have an operating system already?

Yea. So... I'm canceling this build. But don't worry, I've got a lovely surprise in store for you people. So stay tuned. ;)
