that takes me back, the first computer my parents ever bought was a commodore 64, plugging in directly to the tv on the old knobby console tv.
Pretty awesome (if very niche) idea...unfortunately, I highly doubt Commodore would be using godaddy...

Commodore USA, LLC was founded by Barry Altman in April of 2010, with the express purpose of reviving and re-establishing the famous Commodore computer brand. We are Commodore and AMIGA fanatics, just like many of you.

They have put out a bunch of "concepts" over the last year or so, but none of them have materialized yet. So until I see a non computer rendered item, WITH a price and a purchase button.. I am considering this Vaporware.
I do wish they would prove me wrong.

I sure hope they do prove you wrong, I really like the look of the AMIGA 3000 case and would seriously consider it for a home theater.

Heh. One of the übernerds at work built a C64 emulator on an FPGA board a few years back. Or maybe it was a pseudo-Amiga or PET or something, I can't recall.
My questions about this (assuming it ain't vapour) -
1) how do you get your C64 games off those ancient 5¼" floppy disks?
2) how do you plug in your old C64 software cartridges?
3) who cares about the dumb computer ... will they re-release the awesome 1702 monitor (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3227/3027892522_1b2c8d95be.jpg)?

I actually still have a few working 5.25" floppy drives. :D One I know worked just fine with XP...haven't tried it with 7 yet.
When will they come out with the SX64?

Can you even buy 1.2MB HD 5¼" floppies anymore? Do they still make 'em?
I think compatibility is determined by the BIOS, not the OS. If the BIOS (that is, the Super I/O chip firmware) can support 5¼" floppy drives then it'll work. Floppy drives are legacy stuff now, not even built into the Southbridge anymore and only included if the mobo vendor installs the right part - and even then you'll usually only get the option of a single 3½" floppy (maybe two if you're lucky).
Floppies are basically never used these days except (rarely) as a redundant mechanism for restoring bad mobo BIOS, or perhaps for holding user-assigned encryption keys that are too paranoid for USB storage. Or low-budget public school/library/cafe setups that expect people to prefer floppies over removable flash.
Last I checked you could still buy them...crazy expensive though. I have probably a couple hundred of them though, so no need to buy any new ones. As for compatibility, most MBBs I've bothered to check have still listed 5.25" as an option in the BIOS floppy type setting.
