I just ordered my new phone, and yes I did go Android! I switched to sprint, solely for their unlimited plan, and decided to go with the free Sanyo Zio by Kyocera. It runs Android 2.1 but can be upgraded to 2.2. After having used an old school razer for over a year, I am very very excited to get this new phone!

So what android apps are must haves?

Well it will be here in 2-5 days. Also, from reading on the android forums, it looks like the only root app that's known to work is the Ultimate Android Root app.

-Astro (for managing files that you may stumble upon in a torrent)
-Camera Zoom FX (unlocks more goodies than the standard camera)
-Sound Hound (awesome app for when you need to know that awesome song on the radio)
-MicDroid (auto-tune app, fun to play with)
-AK Notepad
-aLastFM Player
-Big Button Keyboard
-Find My Phone

EDIT: Every time I've rooted, I've always gone back because the bugs would drive me insane.

K-9 mail, for email, 3g watchdog to keep track of data transfer (even "unlimited" plans tend to have a "Fair use" level), retro camera (just for fun), ES File explorer for general file browsing, google maps and nav (if not preinstalled), wi-fi hotspot (should come with 2.2 I think) and Handcent for SMS.

Should get you started....

I hope you mean a Motorola Droid, and not droid as in Android. (I hate when people mix those up)

It kills ads in a lot of apps. Most notable, Angry Birds. I dunno what else since I've had it installed since day 2 of owning my Captivate. :D

Yes. One of the Motorola droid models. Still not sure yet though as I hate to pay for a data plan I probably won't use. Still looking at other models, but it has to be verizon as that is the only carrier that works where I live (OK at&t works in a 10' square section of my back yard...)

Let us know how you like your phone Oneslow

My sister and brother in-law both have Motorola Droid models. He has the Droid X while she has the Droid Incredible. Over the last few years they have went through phone after phone, trying to find ones that they like. As far as I know the Droids have filled that void for them.

I was seriously wanting a Droid X and verizon, but once I saw what the monthly bill was going to be, I turned tail and ran the other direction. For a simple plan. 450 anytime, free nights and weekends, 5000 text (no unlimited option) and a capped data plan, they wanted like $98 a month on top of $150 for the phone plus $49.99 activation.

Sprint on the other hand, offered me 450 any time, free unlimited calling to any cell on any carrier, Truly unlimited Data, unlimited text, video, and picture messaging, and the phone was FREE all for $70 a month and FREE activation.

Hmmm,, I might have to see if sprint works in my area. I am a sprint long distance customer too if that helps.

Now I am curious.

Well I have had it for a couple of days now, and I love it.

So far I have downloaded Dolphin Browswer, Mabilo, Barcode Scanner, System Panel Lite, Pandora Radio, and Facebook for Andriod

does it have 1.2 or 2.1 because every review i have seen says it has 1.2 that is why the recommend the other one.

It has 2.1 There is a "sanyo zio" with 1.6 on it, but it is from cricket wireless and is actually a different phone (different processor, ram, and 1.6) Sprint upgraded these to the bigger proc, more ram and 2.1. Once I root it, I will be able to upgrade to 2.2

Keyring App by Mobestream. IMEasy for all your IM's. PhonemyPC is cool, I use it. Titanium Backup, if you root. Pageonce is great for keeping track of your bank and bills. Batterylife by curvefish. Handcent for text messaging. Astrid or Tagtodo for easy to do lists. Skyfire, rock solid web browser with built in flash player. Multicon ftw. Phew!
