I'm not much on casinos or gambling but you've got to check out Freemont Street at night. Awesome light show.

never been to Vegas so I can't say lol.. have fun though!
This really is awesome news, I always love seeing TBCS get more mainstream recognition. :D
As for what to do is Vegas..hmm... TBH I'm not too big on the casinos and gambling either, but there are some really cool pieces of architecture on the strip. Yes, yes, I'm a huge nerd...surprise! Last August at Defcon, I convinced my friends that while we were bar hopping we should go down to the Luxor (giant pyramid), partly just because, but mostly (which I didn't tell them) because I wanted to see the pyramid structure that was, when it was built at least, the largest freestanding enclosed room in the world (outside of stadiums, I suppose). ..like I said..huge nerd...surprise! :P Anyways, if you're really interested, it is pretty neat...but for the love of god do not walk down there. It's all the way at one end of the strip and practically nothing is anywhere near it.
On a less nerdy note, you should definitely check out Caesar's Palace. Awesome neo-Roman architecture, really neat shopping area modeled on Venice..oh, and there's lots of gambling and booze too. ;)
Oh, and try a buffet. One of those 'guide to the city' booklets that you get at the hotels/airport/cabbies/etc should have most of the casinos' buffets rated. I wouldn't recommend breakfast, since it's a bit hard to justify cost-wise, but definitely do lunch or dinner. A good one will run around $30-60, but it's worth it. :D I'm assuming CES is at the convention center? If so, I think the closest one (if you don't feel like walking very far) is the one in the Wynn. I've actually been to that one, so I can vouch for it...very, very good. ..also, just found out there's apparently a Ferrari/Maserati dealership in the Wynn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wynn_Las_Vegas#Penske-Wynn_Ferrari-Maserati_dealership), if you're a car nut. ;)

Freemont Street is already definitely on the agenda but it's nice to get another nod of recommendation for it - we're also looking into going out one night as a group for a meal, but the week is rapidly filling up with parties, I mean Industry Events *cough* so we may end up without a free night to do that.
Thanks for the suggestions though - keep 'em coming....

You know when kids get to that age - around 5-7 years old when they're old enough to really look forward to christmas and still young enough to believe in Santa - it's about 4am on Christmas Morning and they're standing by your bed asking "Is it time to get up yet? Has he been?".....
Well I'm starting to think Oneslowz28 is MORE excited about this trip than those kids are about Christmas :P

Try to get into as many private showings as possible!! They don't advertise them but take interest in booths you really like, sometimes there is more that they have to show but only to those who are actually interested.

Nice! Yes at those Demos you will see some amazing things, so be prepared. Too bad I didn't book a booth there this year.

what to do in vegas??? well just an fyi the porn convention is the same week. so be specific if taking a cab. dont just say take me to the convention or you might find yourself at the wrong place. last time I was there it was at the LV convention center, next to the lv Hilton. see the hoover dam if you can and take the tour. if you do you get an elevator ride inside the dam that drops almost 700ft in like 40 seconds. it is awesome. the hard rock LV gives free shot glasses out for the asking to visitors. do not go to the cheeta club"from show girls" it isnt even close to the same thing. if memory servs Thursday is prime rib night at the tropicanna it is the best 9.00 you will spend on all you can eat prime rib. the Excalibur has one of the best breakfast buffets in vegas. if you want to gamble a little almost every casino will give some form of incentive for you to come in and gamble like double cash for gambling on 25.00. you give them 25 and they give you back 50 in tokens. all the cheap slots are in the backs of the casinos so if you want to play nickel or quarter slots they are in the back. even though it isnt supposed to be the slots at the entrance of the casinos are looser to get you in the door. I played the entry slot machines and came home with more money than when I left and that is after buying the family and friends something small. other than that just research some vegas for visitors before you take off and you will find tons of facts. also drinking is free if you gamble no matter how much u gamble be it a penny slot or a hundred dollar buy in black jack table. also the quietest time for cheap Black Jack tables is 4-6am that is the best time to get in on a 5 or 10 dollar table. any other times and the tables are full.

May I also add that the Adult Entertainment Expo 2011 is also going on at the exact same time.
I'm wondering if there will be coverage of this. :D

Apparently, the Adult entertainment expo is a $2200 entry fee - idn - I'm only going on what I heard..... :D
Heads up people - O'Aces Bar and Grill - good food, lousy service... :s we're full but there's something very wrong when 15 minutes after finishing your first beer, you have to get up and go to the bar for the second one....

Well, I lived in Vegas for three months so I had some time to really do some stuff and figure out what was the best stuff to do. I have a list on my website that talks about stuff: http://modsandends.com/?p=564. I would suggest going there to get recommendations.
I don't think I ever put the Fremont Street Experience on that list, but don't go unless you run out of money and free things to do. It's in the dirty and old part of the strip. There's lots of trannies and bums and drunks around, and the crowd is a bit much. The show on the big screen isn't amazing and the casinos in that part of the strip are the kind that have nothing to offer other than penny and nickel slots. If you had to choose between the Fremont Street Experience or catching more of the Belagio Fountains (they cycle through so you could watch all day with maybe 1-2 repeats) I would choose the Belagio Fountains every time. Way more impressive and a much cooler experience.

I have to disagree with the above, Fremont Street was a blast when I was there. Of course I'll admit the Bellagio was awesome, but I'd take another stroll on Fremont Street WAY before watching the fountains again.
Just goes to show, they've got something for just about everyone.
A friend of mine went last month, his favorite thing is people-watching. He was like a kid in a candy shop, just about anywhere he went. :D

I have officially survived CES 2011 and returned safely home.
This was an amazing trip, and I was only able to go for three days. I'm not sure how the others that were there for a week were able to handle it.
Great time guys, let's do it again next year!

I'm going to try and save some coin so I can go next year as well. I have school off every year at this time so I won't miss a thing (as opposed to E3). I would have liked more daily coverage and just blogging of what you did around Vegas when you weren't at the show. I would be a pretty good guide too since I've lived there.
