So, my wife is getting a new Dell XPS L501x. Specs are:

15.6 inch LCD
Backlit keyboard
Intel Core i5-460M 2.53GHz
4GB DDR3
GeForce GT 420M 1GB
500GB 7200rpm HDD
92 WHr 9-cell Battery

My wife is also a HUGE St Louis Cardinals fan, so I got it customized for her too

I had a dell inspiron 1525 i got 3 years ago, the build quality was crap, dell entered my **** list. this year, i worked on 3 different dell's for customers, the quality seems to have gone way up on their low end lappys. i also played with alienware and was amazed at the quality. Dell is off my **** list. :D

I totally agree. At the same time, I don't trust any low end laptops from any company. If you buy any laptop for a grand these days you'll usually get gems and not crap.

I looked at getting her an Alienware too, but the same build would've been $1800
