View Full Version : Macs mods
I have a few macs that I plan on upgrading... big-time.
Victim #1: PowerMac G3 B&W.
Victim #2: iMac G3 Lime Tray-loading.
Victim #3: PowerMac 5300/100 LC.
All: Need mobos, ram, hdd, etc.
AIOs: Need LCDs. This will reduce weight. I am fairly confident I can dremel the CRT area flat to accomidate LCD.
TBH, I have started on all three.
Pix to come!

DEFINITELY intrigued - I have an iMac G3 (Blueberry I think) slot load at home and I plan to replace the screen with a 15" LCD and am hopefully looking at a mini-itx zotac board to replace the guts
No guarantees but,....
I might be getting an iMac G5 sometime soon.

@AmEv...did you ever endup getting the G5? Did you do anything with it?
I have the iMac g5, yeah.
The motherboard is shot, though.
My current plan is to insert a video controller card.
OK, updates:
The iMac G3: I have plans for it. Just no 15" monitor to fit it.
The PowerMac: I have a board planned for it. Just, I broke a foot (rageface). And I need a couple other more new parts
The iMac G5: Need to get an LCD controller with speaker and mic support. It's gonna be my LAN party monitor.
Ohhhhh, the iMac G3 is going to be a NIGHTMARE to SketchUp... *shivers*

You mean 15" CRT monitor for the G3??? and for the imac G5, you're looking for something like this (some guy is selling it for $40)?

Same guy is also selling a HP SH249 like this one for $50

The G5 already has an LCD in it.
I just need a controller.
I'm going the LCD route for the iG3 simply because it means more room for cooling.
And general storage.
And so I'm not stuck at 1024*768@75Hz, unable to access the BIOS.
AND energy efficency.

Now, if only I had a spare DVI cable (which, amazingly, I DON'T....!)

Nice find!!!
THREAD! ARISE!
A bit of an update:
The iMac G5 had a bad GPU, and is now being adapted for my little brother's computer. For homework/Christmas.
The PowerMac has a uATX motherboard now. Unfortunately, some plastics are broken. So I need to replace them. And I now find a reason to get a tap/die set.
The iMac G3... Well, I have all the parts of the computer itself. Just need to find them....
