i built an i7 rig with a 480, checked all the power cables, but have no video. Help! when i power on, everything spins up, turns off, then spins up again. down to 1 stick of ram.

fans spin up, and mobo LEDs light up, then everything shuts down. then everything spins back up and there's nothing.
edit: nothing = no video, just fans turned on

Is there enough power? How reliable is the PSU?
Only thing you can do is prolly to test each component individually is a separate system.

its an 850 watt Corsair AX. the 480 worked a couple days ago, this is upsetting.

Just started getting beep codes, continuous beeps = gpu seated incorrectly. Going to try to re-seat now...

Try the memory at least once in each of the slots; that was a problem for my friend's new build, no beeps when inserted into non-primary slot.

tried each slot, gonna try to take off the water block and put the air block on?... wishing i had a different card to test with.

That shouldn't be the problem if it's not even starting up. Did you double-check that you have all of the correct power cables inserted all the way?

aparently its a common problem for this board, TBCS recomendations for a different i7 board with sata 6, usb 3, and 90* sata connections? socket 1366 ~200, 230 max

TBH? he has been without a computer, and he starts class soon, so we cant wait for the RMA process. its sad, but this build has to get done asssap (as soon soon soon as possible. lol). so we're getting a different board, we cant risk that he'll get another dud

Then RMA it and sell the new one that you get, while buying a new one for this computer, I guess.

Asus Rampage III Gene. It's what I have and I absolutely love it. I got the system up and running in about 15 minutes. There were some issues, but the on-board troubleshooting quickly and effectively solved all of that. It also has a great set of features. I highly recommend it if you can afford it.

I'd second getting an Asus board. My P6X58D-E is rock solid. Everything just worked when I started it the first time.

thats the board, if you look at the 1 egg reviews there's a bunch with the same error i got, one guy even got 2 RMA's of the same board that failed!! so i guess we're gonna return this 1 to newegg, and get this bad buy instead.

That seems like a pretty legit board. Too bad about the x8 speeds, but that's not too big of a deal really.
