My wifes monitor died on us yesterday(backlight went out) and I've been looking around online. It's a Samsung SyncMaster 932bw there seems to be two common issues with this model. 1- bad caps in the power supply 2- CFL's go bad. My question is how do I tell which is the problem? When it's turned on it comes on for 2-3 seconds then goes black. When it does come on it seem as bright as normal, which leads me to believe bad caps but none of them look bad(no bulging or leaking). Any body have any ideas? We can't afford to replace it anytime soon so I'd really like to fix it I just need to figure out what needs to be replaced.
Loose video cable? Inside and out?
Video card bad?
I would guess bad caps or something else wrong with the inverter board. If you don't feel comfortable replacing caps yourself, this website has lots of weird little boards like that. It's where I got the replacement controller/inverter board for my SyncMaster 225BW that I got out of the trash. :D Get the model number off the board inside and look for that.

I know it's the backlight and not the card/connection. Already have it apart and the display is fine, just not light.
I wish it were that easy, got a spare card.

I don't have a problem replacing the caps myself, I just can't tell what is wrong with the light. There are no visibly bad caps or scorch marks on the board. Might have to check them out though if I can't get it figured out.
