IMO, this is better than the similar idea that I saw on my friend's case, where there's a piece acting as a PCI clot cover that the cords are supposed to be wrapped through. To pull them out, you'd have to remove the side panel and pull the piece out. Needless to say, he doesn't use that feature.

The only problem that I see with this, is that those keys are normally universal. It would be a good deterrent, though.

I have had several locks over the years that used the round style key and they have all been keyed different. This is the same style key that drink machines, some RV motor homes, and lots of utility trailer locks use. I had locking hood pins on my Camaro once that used that style key. IIRC NZXT is using 20 different key configurations on these to ensure some security. They are quite easy to spoof though with a bic pen and some tinkering.

Interesting idea, but I agree on the key note; they'll have to figure out some way of spreading the keyings around. I have a bunch of locking HDD bays, all the same model, and all use the exact same key....makes it convenient for me, but not secure in any way.

These locks have never been put in place to super-secure things - they're a visual deterrent and a block to the casual opportunist - from that perspective, they do the job. If someone really wants your stuff, no lock will stop them for long....
