View Full Version : New, robust, flexible robot hand.
Awesomeness. :D Like many robotic hands, it takes a lot of cues from human physiology, with some impressive results.

So where do I sign to get one? This organic one is all worn out, I need a new one.

Awesome. I almost wish I was missing an arm... but then, it can't be cheap. Most hexapod robot KITS are like a grand or more (which is unbelievably lame!). This is a fully functioning and seriously bad ass robotic arm meant to replace an organic limb. You could probably buy a house for the same price. lol
Freaking cool, though.
They said in the article that the parts are worth ~$7,500-$10,000. And tbh, most of those hexapod kits are seriously overpriced, imo. You could do the same thing with an arduino and $50 in parts. I'm with you though, even if I don't have a reason for it like Kayin, I've never seen the problem with cyborgs. If I could get a mechanical arm that performed at least as well as a human arm in every way, hells yeah I would replace mine! Just watch, in 50 years time there will be sites about prosthetic modding and overclocking.

so i should cut my arm off now and get it replaced with a huge bionic awesomely strong cool babe magnet right?
And it will get to the point where our brains are in a pod and our parts(bodies)are roaming elsewhere.

Nope.
About 13 people have worked on the hand, and Grebenstein insists it’s hard to estimate the cost of the project. But he says that the hardware for one hand would cost between 70,000 and 100,000 euros.
Or about 95,000-136,000USD...just for parts. Add a sick amount of profit on top of that plus surgery/installation costs...
Maybe they would install it for free on someone in exchange for a long term experiment deal though. People like this need to be in the daily headlines to get heaps of grant money, and cyborgs usually get them there--especially if it's a charitable donation to a cyborg.
Sorry, my memory did a right-shift. :P ...also a currency shift...
